Face painting

Halloweeen ws a two day ordeal (as it should be, at the very least). The elementaries went on monday, instead of screaming I was face painting for the afternoon. No complaints

OK, I knew I always wanted to be a teacher during the holidays, but this was something else. First of all, it is safe to say I will have a hard time thinking kids back home are half as cute as a school full of Koreans dressed up as various idols from Western pop culture. Second of all, today is the day I learned just how fabulous my kids really are. They are, by far, the coolest kids in Korea....that is NOT a biased opinion. I swear. They were a RIOT! they always are, but totally, utterly priceless today. Really.
I have been a waitress for so many years, and ALWAYS have to work Halloween for obvious reasons, so it was a real treat to be able to serve candy to the little trick or treating buggers. They were adorable, and the most precious part of all was how baffled they were that the whole bag of candy....yessir, TWO handfuls......was for their own personal enjoyment. "But teacher, sharing?" "Sharing is always a good thing guys, but this time everyone has their own. This candy is for you.....can maybe a little for your mother.....save the cholcolate ones...."

was the display Deer class put on in the Haunted house (haunted gym stage). I warned them for weeks that Halloween was the night for monsters...."They wait all year for this kids!"...."But not REAL monsters teacher"...."Oh yeah kiddies, straight up the real deal. But look, the BRILLIANT thing is this. YOU are the real thing TOO. That is what Halloween is all about. You get to be somebody else. You get to save the world from evil doers once again! William, you think that Buzz Lightyear suit is just a cheap kiddie costume? Well my friend, guess what? No way! And Leo? That ninja sword is made just for kicking bad guy butt, but only for ONE day. And it only works on the REAL bad guys, so be careful where you use it!"
And so when the time came to enter the dark (impressively done) stage, Leo and the rest of the crew (OK maybe not the girls...they were princesses and had no ninja swords for protection) went in "no guts no glory" style. And when Leo saw Mr. Strathdee in the dark corner of the room, blood dripping down his chin (Jeez man, they're five for crying out

"Heyyyyyy Mr Strathcheeeeeeeeeeeeeee......Commmmmme herrrrreeeeee", beckoning him with a karate style four finger 'bring it on' gesture. Mr. Strathdee may not have been a real monster, but a Leafs fan is close enough, especially in my kids' books.
And so it was, the kids went home heroes, weighed down with sugary treats, faces painted, and on a glorious sugar high that the mothers got to deal with. All in all, a fabulous day.
