With Mr. & Mrs. Choi at one of the small hills in the Anmyeongdo Red Pine Forest.
We left Seonjang with Mr. and Mrs. Choi, friends of Young Ok's mother. Mr. Choi taught both Nerida and Matthew when they went to school in Seonjang Middle School. We headed for Anmyeong Island to stay for 2 nights in a resort condominium. We found in this part of the country, especially in Taean-gun, a rural Korea that I thought had been lost. It is modernising, but without the crass development found in most areas. The old life-style is still pretty much intact. Modern equipment and methods are being used, but the environment has not been despoiled by inappropriate developments as occurs in most of South Korea. Anmyeong Island has been victim of its natural riches - beaches, forests, etc. - with numerous pensions, holiday homes, mini-resorts, and condominiums like the one that we stayed in. It is still, however, a most beautiful place (out of holiday season) to relax and enjoy nature.

Part of our seafood dinner while at Anmyeong Island. It is a great place for fresh seafood and fresh vegetables.

Young Ok and Mrs Choi assist with threshing the beans using the traditional tools, while on the way to Mahndae (= "Land's End) on the peninsula north of Taean in Taean-gun.

Korean-style bbq with charcoal. Fresh seafood cooked at the table. (Seafood always seems to be accompanied with quail eggs.)

Bob and Mrs Choi get their feet wet in the Yellow Sea at Mallipo Beach - one of the most popular summer beaches on the west coast. It has beautiful, fine sand and long, mild sloping sand - ideal for most Koreans (who have a thing about swimming in general, and swimming in the sea in particular).

Impressive
A very impressive sunset and the seafood looks luscious. You seem to be having a very good time. Thank you for all the blogs - I have been looking at them this afternoon with my hand in a bandage (carpal tunnel). Sore but successful. The news from home ... the election has finally been called for the 24 November. Caulfield Cup had a big upset with the first and second favourites being scartched at the barrier. The most important news, though, is that Chris Judd has signed with Carlton! Thanks very much for the blogs!!
