I, my 3 year old daughter Sana and hubby Rajesh along with bro-in-law & his 3 year old son Subid planned a trip to Sauraha, Nepal’s famous Chitwan jungle safari on 8th April 2010.
We reached Sauraha late evening almost dark say 9ish. My husband and his brothers had already booked in a hotel, but we got lost for a while. Gosh the roads were dreadful and it was dark and a long long road only to realise it was almost 3 km away from nearest town.
Since it was late nite, we missed the scenery of the Chitwan Lake ,but there was so much excitement of sitting on the elephant and touring the jungle. The happiness and excitement in my daughter’s eyes, she been waiting for this day ever since we planned our trip 2 months ago.
My Bro in Law negotiated with the hotel guys a DEAL of Rs.5000, NZ 100 dollars for us. Whoa what a bargain!!!
Survived the nite with FAN, No air conditioner and 30 +degrees and only few mosquito bites. That’s luxury in a most non-luxurious way.
Woke up early morning for the 6 a.m tour to the place.
So Many Haathi's
Sana & Subid wondering when dey can sit on HaaTHi Beautiful weather (Great Sun view) early morning, fog & cup of hot tea in the balcony of our hotel. From the balcony of our hotel,we could see procession of at least 50 elephant’s marching, Kids were jumping & for the first time my baby Sana said “Haathi” (in Nepali) instead of Elephant. She got the gist of difference in English and Nepali language.
We had no breakfast, because we all wanted to complete our jungle safari mission more than anything.
There were 6 of us including our 3 year old kids Sana and her cousin brother Subid on one elephant carrier. Our Elephants name was RamPyaari.
The task of sitting on the carrier itself was so tricky, guess what me already a drama queen had to get in last,it was so so DAUNTING.
RamPyaari was so cool and calm and he took his own path with his mahout .There were so many other elephants with people on them and with Mahout directions there was not a single dash dash of elephants.
We all felt sorry for RamPyaari in many ways (knowing our weight) and asked the mahout to be gentle on her. All the way in
Yea,we njoyed the back of it
Question of the century,Howcome Maharajas preferred the haathi agains Doli the jungle, my sis in law was getting trapped in the spider web & big tree branches,we all had a hysterical laugh.
At one point RamPyaari stood and started making his natures call, big chunks of poo and soo soo (wee wee)
There seemed to be a big flood in there. This made Sana so happy with EMBARASSMENT and was saying Sheeeeeeeeeeeeee,Yukky POO POO
We were so happy to spot our deer first, then a peacock. The Guide our Mahnout excitedly pointed rhinos, walking in zing zag.We saw3 rhinos/It was fantastic to get a good view of them ,our elephant did a full circuit around them ,it didnt bother rhinos at all.
After that we had a short Tanga Ride, sitting in Horse carriage. My daughter loved it.
Next in line was Canoe ride, which was nice ,we spotted a crocodile along the banks of the river and also saw some beautiful birds. Weather was stunning with clear views. Sana started singing her favourite rhyme which really to our current sitaution :Row Row Row a Boat,Gently Down the Stream, If you see a alligator dont forget to scream Ahhhhhh. We burst ut with laughter as Sana screamed.
When
Peacocks
So Elegant Sana fumbled a bit in the Canoe for the first time she said "Are Baap Re"(OMG), i had never heard this from her, and when i asked her Why she said it she says My Hajurba(Grand-dad) says this. What a revelation for her mum.
We were told that this alligator wasn’t a man eater, ahem!!! Is there a thing like alligator bathing? Don’t think so…
After elephant trek, canoe ride, nature walk,we walked to the elephant breeding centre where there were so many cute baby elephants and their parents. We skipped elephant bathing althought it was part of our To-Do,as kids were too exhausted.Shhhhh we were holding on to our staminas.
Loved the elephant ride in the jungle spanning 1.5 hours ,just wondered how the Maharajas sat so comfortably on elehants in the past. Its not really as confortable like a train, bus, car, plane of even Tanga.
On our way back to Naraynghadh where we were visiting our relatives,we enjoyed the surrounding sights, the fields, straw huts ,cows, buffalos all overshadowing the bumpy half made roads.
What a Experience booster with Elephants. A Salute to you for carrying us.
Looking for a semi wild life adventure minus wild animals,
This deer guy didnt like us
So he ran away when we screamed..what do u expect humans worthwhile trip and most most important, my 3 year old daughter enjoyed heaps. PRICELESS.
