Mani Wheels

Most towns (this is near Marpha) have a Mani prayer wheel on both sides; always walk to the left and spin them clockwise for good karma.

This glacial water is clean but black.

Weight

After seeing these men transporting goods from town to town, it's easier to carry just 10 kilos (20 lbs).

Typical Room

I paid an average of 100 ($1.20) for a room like this. Squat toilet bathrooms (usually pretty clean) are outside. Most places advertise warm showers, but they don't work very well.

It\'s really interesting to hear you ended up having a lot of the same observations as we did, despite your much faster speed. I'm glad your guide to Chame worked out, but I\'d just add a note of caution that guides hired en route have been known to desert trekkers. It was indeed eerie how quiet the trail was. The guest houses too - a lot were being run by the younger generation while the proprietors vacationed in Kathmandu during the off season. Also, sorry to hear about the bed bugs you got on either Yak Kharka/Thorung Phedi. Hope all is well South of the border!
