about your questions
Hi There, Here are some answers to your questions. If you have more, feel free to send them. We started in Latvia, Lelde's home country , by taking an over-night train to Moscow. We had a travel company do our Russian, Mongolian and Chinese visas for us in one go. The best way though, is to vivit the embassys personally to get each visa- it'll be the cheapest way and you can get more info from them on travel in the countries( we spent around 300 pounds each on these three visas- since we've been travelling we've seen that , by going to the countrie's' embassy abroad to get the visas it will only cost 20-35 US Dollars per country.) The other good thing about getting the visas from the ebassys is that you can change your travel details as you go- getting each country's visa in their neighbouring country's capital. We booked the first-class trian cabin through a russian company called "spezhy veter"- again, if we were to do it again, then I'd book the tickets at the train station. Our tickets cost about 350 pounds(700 US Dollars) It's MUCH MUCH cheaper to get the tickets at the station for all travel and probably a better idea just to go "soft sleeper" class. You can get tonnes of information on train and other overlan/sea travel at thi amazing site- www.seat61.com Costs on the train were just for our food.
