HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM HUDHURAN FUSHI!!! It's a beautiful sunny day and I just wanted to wish everyone the very best of everything for 2013 - I hope wherever you are in the world your New Year is fab!! And peaceful, and spiritual (of the Cptn.Morgan type...), and FUN!
I've had a great week apart from a couple of falling down incidents - read on to find out what/who fell where/when... And it's a bit of a long blog too, there's been a lot going on...
The island has been a non stop party zone since Christmas Eve with some people getting into it more than others... why on earth do people come on holiday to somewhere as fantastic as the Maldives to be miserable - it's beyond me, anyway here at party central we had a Maale Tribal Night beach party - it was fantastic! Full war paint (that was the tribal peeps not me...), traditional costumes, dancing round the bonfire on the beach and drinking 'local' cocktails under the stars - it'll definitely be a night to remember... shame I didn't remember my camera :-(
We had the Russian's attempt yet
another takeover for the Karaoke but thankfully there were some brave Brits on hand this week who definitely held their own - Although Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive is not necessarily the best come back I've ever encountered - still it was another fun night...
It was after one of these 'fun' nights that the first falling down incident took place... As I've said in previous blogs we travel to the airport by speedboat so it's important as a regular 'commuter' to step on and off the boat effortlessly and elegantly - not quite the case this week - I fell off the boat at the airport and it was nothing to do with Christmas Spirit ;-) the tide was out and it was a big step up onto the quayside for my little legs - unfortunately just as I chose to step up the boat decided to rock and I ended up on the concrete jetty on my knees with everyone else getting a very unflattering view of my backside - at least I had proper knickers on!! The boat crew and airport reps rushed to my aid and hauled me to my feet so thank you guys
for that and for showing concern and definitely for not laughing - not sure how you managed that one... No real damage done luckily except to my pride but obviously since then I have been extra careful and insisted on holding the boat crews hand/s when disembarking and boarding - that's boat talk for getting on and off...
And so to the next falling down incident... this was also after one of this weeks 'fun' nights out but on my way back to my room on the island... a coconut fell off a tree and missed me by inches... it scared the bejeezus out of me and despite the heat encouraged me to hot foot it back to my room in case anymore coconuts came thundering out of the sky... there is a statistic that I'm sure I've read somewhere that more people are killed by falling coconuts than by sharks - I can't remember it exactly but it's something like that and basically it means COCONUTS are dangerous and should be avoided when falling from the trees!!
I took some time out this week to get to know the water sports guys a bit better and hung around their den with them one morning... a holiday maker on the island wanted to go out on the inflatable bouncy thing that gets towed through the water by a jet ski but she was on her own and minimum of two peeps are needed 'for balance'... Guess who was nominated - yep ME! So after I had been assured that I wouldn't fall off or go upside down in the water it was clothes off (I had a bikini on...) and life jacket on... The best way to describe the bouncy tube thing on Hudhuran is to say it's like a double bed settee - two of you sit there, legs outstretched, holding on to the handles for dear life while some nutter (that'll be the watersports guys...) speed around the Indian Ocean doing their very best to make you fall off... It's one of those things where you keep your mouth shut and sit tight - for two reasons - the phrase 'scream if you wanna go faster' is an unwritten command (apparently) and if you do open your mouth to scream you end up swallowing large amounts of sea water - on a scale of 1-10 I would put it as a massive ten for fun - i really enjoyed it and have now become the official volunteer if an extra bod is ever needed 'for balance'.
So new years eve is here and I have every confidence that tonight is going to be just as much, if not more, fun than Christmas Eve... it was that good that Christmas morning was spent on the beach sunbathing and sleeping... Can't wait to start 2013 the same way! On Christmas Eve I had another special little 'duty' to perform... I was to be Mrs Christmas (preferably before Cptn Morgan took over my ability to walk and dance properly and in a fashion befitting to being seen in front of children...) We were the cool claus' this being a tropical island and all that-it was really great - I felt like a film star with so many flashes going off - I think I can now officially say I've been papped...
Finally - as you all breath a sigh of relief... A very happy new year to you all - stay safe and in 2013 may all your dreams come true!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Here's wishing you a safe transition into 2013 ..... coconuts allowing. Sounds as if most of your dreams have come true this year - here's hoping 2013 will fulfil those still outstanding and give you new ones to achieve! Like the Mrs Santa outfit! Red is your colour - but hadn't realised she was a black belt! Suppose someone has to fight off any 'naughty' children that won't take no for an answer. love and best wishes XXXX
