After a few days in Penang, our last leg of Malaysia we left. We hadn't planned to stay much longer although we could of done. It was a great city / island (connected to the mainland via a big bridge), it seemed to have everything. We took the train ride up penang Hill on a funicular train which was sooo steep my ears popped within minutes. The food was great too - Penang is the hawker capital of Asia and there are loads of great food stalls and dim sum carts with everything you can think of for under a quid, so obviously I was in food heaven!!! We had already booked the journey to Phi Phi unaware that we had yet again to take another long land journey on a very uncomfortable minibus which left our bums battered and bruised !!!,
I also lost my bag on the minibus journey from Penang to Thailand!!!! (I know, how predictable!!!!) We had just crossed the border (so weird going through border crossings on land!) and then stopped at a service station for a toilet stop / food etc. I went to the toilet and left my bloody bag there Passport / money
/ EVERYTHING!!!! I know this is so predictable but it wasn;t until we were about 20 mins into the bus journey again that I realised and halted the bus to a stop. LUCKILY the driver knew a couple of other bus drivers due to stop and they found it but it was a frantic 3hours before I got it back in Krabbi, so we just made our ferry to Phi Phi by about 5 mins to spare! Everything was there except a bit of money which I would of quite happily paid to get everything back. I have never felt so relieved.
So the bag loss was was definitely a fun D moment. We have decided to categorise our types of fun as follows:-
Fun A - Having the best time at that very moment
Fun B - Anticipation / excitement - on the way somewhere new - soon to be havin fun!!
Fun C- having awful time / overnight sleepless travelling etc etc.
Fun D - experience not to be repeated!!!
The days spent on Phi Phi consisted of late lie ins and lunchtime breakfasts and sitting around relaxing and reading in a great bookshop
/ eating / shopping. However I did manage to dive, I say manage as I wasn't very good (definitely not a natural!!!). On the first dive I was very sea sick and couldn't do it, I just vomited everywhere, on the boat, while in the water too, it was awful (FUN C/D). They persuaded me to try again after giving me a seasickness tablet which worked. Both me and Jen got one on one tuition as Jen struggled a little too. At first I couldn't do it but I persisted and eventually got to about 7 meters just off the island where "The Beach" was filmed (Mia beach). We couldn't go much deeper than about 12 mtrs anyway as it was only a first "Discovery" dive I got a certificate to say I have completed ta discovery dive which I was shocked at as I couldn't;t do the "skills" - Clearing the mask, changing the regulator underwater. etc etc. I came off the boat and can say I was definitely not in a hurry to do it again but after some thought I am goin to set myself a challenge TO DO IT again. I may try it in the
Great Barrier Reef or Bali but with Sea sickness tablets next time!!!! I thought I had my sea legs!!, obviously not!! You get some money off doing an Open Water dive course with the Padi certificate so Pigs might fly and I might just do it.
We had planned to go to another Thai island - Koh Tau before I left to meet Joe but it all seemed a bit rushed so we decided to stay here in Phi Phi. Stayed at a great place called the K House.
The girls left the same time as I did to go to Koh Tau and I am leaving to meet Joe in Laos. I had to get the ferry back to Krabbi and then get a 12hour overnight bus to Bangkok (no sleep - Fun C) and then another 12 hr train to the border crossing Monday morning.
After Laos I am going to go to Chang Mai (North Thailand) do some elephant Trekking and then flying to Indonesia / Bali to meet Lisa for a few weeks (extended my flight so I could go to Bali). Then my Asia adventure will be over and I will fly back
to Oz 20th October to Darwin and then travelling down the East Coast of Oz!!!
You could spend 6 months travelling Asia, easily, its Fab!!!

Looking fantastic!
Hi Jane, Feels like i've not heard from you for ages. Was actually thinking about you this morning and then logged on to find you had at last updated. Your well and looking like your having such a brill time - still in no way shape or form jealous at all!!!!! The island photo's look out of this world. Somewhere i would definetly love to experience - but i couldn't cope with the travelling aspect (coach/bus rides) and the food. I would end up starving wouldn't i? I've heard no mention of chips, bacon, burger etc.. and definetly not my kind of cake if it has a egg in it!!! ha! ha! How wierd! You still haven't forwarded your new mobile number my way, so i have not been able to call you. I have been working loads anyway - but if you forward it i could give you a call Thursday morning for a catch up - we've not caught up properly for a couple of weeks. To be honest not much to report. Same old, same old. A few events have occured (i'll use your coding!): House Flooded by central heating tank ball cock break - Coding D Car Window smashed by a big scrubber to rob our Josh's PE Kit - Coding D 3 Speeding fines in the last few weeks - 9 points and £180 in fines - Coding D This Tuesday in A&E with our Josh, due to a stange, trauma rash to the back - Coding D So apart from the usual very bad luck that swings my way on the odd occassions, everything is as much as it usually is. Nothing exciting to report. I'm going to go now. But please remember at all times remember all your belongings. We definetly don't want another code D on the bag front. Some things will just never change!!!! You carry on having a really great time and experience as much as possible whillst your out there. Miss You - Deb xxxxx
