Have to use really sharp blades and special skill to cut it down in one stroke Hello. Went to Nature Lodge on the river. Which included two eaerly morning river trips at 6am, two evening river trips at 4pm, a morning trek through the jungle to an oxbow lake and two night treks. We saw more orangutans, one of which was so close and playing for the camera! Also saw long tail macques, they are quite common monkeys, silver langers which are more shy monkeys, proboscis monkeys, a scorpian which i held!, many birds - kingfishers, hornbills, egrets, and white capped eagles, and two 12foot crocodiles!!
It was really good fun, our guide Louis was nuts and had a very dry sense of humour. He was tiny a bit liked a pocket sized guide but we decided if you put him in your pocket he would chew his way back out!! The place is run by Papa Bear!! Everyone in Borneo is soooo friendly and they are all so proud that you are visiting their country. Had a really good time on the river, but it is so hot have not stopped weating! And couldnt sleep on the second night because i thought there was a Scorpian in my bed!! When we left you have to
get a boat accross the river to the mini bus and we made all the staff come out and wave us off and then we circled past and made them wave again - it was very funny!!
Decided to stay in Sepilok for one night so that we could go to the orang-utan sanctury. We got there to watch feeding on the platform, they are so gracefull the way they swing through the trees despite their great size. I then went on what i thought was a short walk, a bit like the kind you'd have at the zoo in the uk so i was only wearing flip flops! turned into a 2 hour jungle trek where we were ambushed by fighting monkeys!! Quite funny but a bit scary as the monkeys were running at us and each other with big sticks!!! and there were so many tiger leeches and i had nothing on my feet!!
I also went to the Rainforest discovery centre which was just next to where we were staying. It was so nice, i was the only person there and they had a botanical garden with many different plants and birds and a bright
purple butterfly. Then in the main centre i was walking around and there was a stuffed crocodile and i ran backwards because i thought it was a real one!!! nearly had heart failure!! Also did the canopy walk which was good as could hear all the jungle sounds.
That night we stayed in a dorm that was right on the edge of the jungle and some wierd creature was right outside our room, we couldn't see it but could hear it and it sounded big!! In the morning flew back from Sandakan to KK and have spent one night here and we are now about to fly to Miri. We will spend two days there and then fly to Mulu National Park which is in Sarawak. Here we are supposed to be doing a 3 day 2 night trek to climb the pinnacles but it depends if it comes off or not??!! watch this space!!
