Songkran
Totally soaked with a crusty face :) We left Cat Ba to go to Sapa which was blissfully cold and then not so blissful and just bloody freezing especially when I discovered I had a infected toe and couldn't put shoes on so had to walk around in socks and flip flops; looking like a moron and freezing my tootsies off. We rented bikes and explored the surrounding hilliness and got roped into buying some shit off tribeswoman in Ta Phin a little village up in the hills. Then I was on my own for 2 days while Leah and Cec did a trek; luckily I've been before so I didn't feel too bad about missing out. There was no way I could do the trek when walking anywhere felt like my toe would drop off (it hasn't btw all healed no more pus yay) so I spent some time on my own mainly in the hotel room as walking was a pain in the ass. Cec and Leah eventually made it back to rainy, cold Sapa town and we waited for our night bus to Hanoi. We had one day there then went off to the airport to get our flight back to Thailand.
Thailand.2 Cockroach Accident
It touched me so I smashed a glass - Tard! We got into Bangkok and I left it to Cec to get us to wherever we were going because as far as I knew she had booked us a place to stay and worked out the trains and stuff. So we eventually find what we are looking for and walk into this big Holiday Inn fancy pants lobby; I was thinking 'oh shit she's booked us somewhere pricey because she's been stupid with the money conversion' not so nice of me but I was stumped and being a bit thick 😊 It was only when she said we had a room booked under 'Joe Kempster' did I twig and freak out. It was amazing being in such luxury, we had a bath, bathrobes, slippers, double beds, TV, a desk, tea and writing implements - it was awesome! I got another birthday surprise whilst there of cake and champagne on one of those hotel trolley things again awesome! Thank you Kempster family!
We were in that hotel for 2 days enjoying the roof top pool and the general lushness then sadly we had to move on and go back to cheap digs 😞 It was Thai new year so we
headed to Khao San Road and got drenched on the way, found the first guesthouse dumped our stuff then went out to experience Songkran. It's the biggest water fight I've ever seen; you just walk up the road soaking everyone and getting soaked I loved it!!! The white clay they smear on your face wasn't the best especially when it dries and you go crusty but it was so much fun I got over the crusty face. One day of it is enough though so we booked our bus out of there for the next day. With Songkran still raging around us it wasn't that fun heading to our bus pleading with people not to soak us but we took dry clothes to change into so no biggy.
Next stop was Krabi which is a bit crappy (see what I did there) the beach was nice but painful on the feet and the town was a bit boring yet we stayed like 4 days; just being lazy, hanging on the beach and getting drunk of an evening.
The main reason we headed back to Thailand was to dive the Similian Islands so after Krabi we went to Khao
Langkawi
Shisha at the Reggae bar and my best picture yet :) Lak another boring town but from there we booked a diving live aboard trip - 2 days 1 night on the boat with 6 dives. It was so good to dive again and we did a night dive and saw a turtle - amazing!
After that we boated it over to Koh Phi Phi which for me was a bit meh - basically a overpriced booze fest with no good beach unless you get a boat somewhere else. We did a boat trip to see all the good bits of the island and saw 'The Beach' beach which was alright. I wasn't really loving Phi Phi as I was feeling very stingy after a expensive dive and its a pricey island - I wanted out of Thailand and to move onto Malaysia.
Malaysia We left Phi Phi and had to have a night in Krabi as that's where the buses go from but eventually we bussed and boated our way into Malaysia to the island Langkawi; I've been before with the fam but we stayed in a nice resort then so this time was a different experience. We spent a few days there; one day we did
Perhentian Islands
The view from our hut a cable car up some mountain and the views were fantastic! There was a cool bar on the beach where we spent some evenings which mostly involved a lot of 'Shithead' drinking and shisha.
After that we headed to Penang a bit of a boring city; loads of temples and museums which I don't particularly care about seeing, we did go to Fort Cornwallis which is just as dull as it sounds but Penang is known for its good food which we had a lot of 😊
Next stop was the Perhentian Islands: from Penang we had our first night minibus but if you get dropped off at 4am can you call it a night bus? Anyway after 4 hours sat waiting we got the boat to the small Perhentian Island only to find we were on the quieter beach so we had a long trek (short walk) to the other side of the island and a very sweaty hotel hunt but after that it was 6 days of gorgeous beach, swimming, sunbathing, eating and a bit of drinking - totally relaxing.
Also a lovely bit of news from home my niece Rose German was born on
Cameron Highlands
Such fun in the tea plantation 7th May in their lounge (yuck) I know this isn't travelling related but I'm excited about it.
Cameron highlands was nice but bit dull; great views of the mountains and tea plantations and we did a tour which went to a tea plantation, tea factory, tea shop, a mossy forest and a strawberry farm. Our guide wawsn't the best at speaking english and as it was just us 2 on it we couldn't hide away so the whole afternoon was a lot of nodding and smiling and secret looks of confusion behind his back so unfortunately the tour wasn't great and the teashop was completly overpriced - we did still get a cake and a brew and again at the strawberry farm because we are a couple of chubbas 😊
From the highlands we came to Kuala Lumpur and have so far not done much, yesterday after we had found a place to stay in Chinatown we headed out to find food and had a huge banana leaf curry and then had to lie down the rest of the day as it was so much food. We ventured out in the evening to check out the market which is same crap, different stall. We will stay in KL a few days and then head to Melaka as our last stop then onto Singapore for as short a time as possible as its well expensive!
