We made our way here slowly leaving early in the morning and arrive just after dinner but the day went reasonably fast and we are happy to be in malaysia again we were excited about KK however we discovered the cost to do things and stay here are much higher than Sandakan and the climb we wanted to do was way out of budget! After checking in to our hotel we realised the room was smoking and they say all there standard rooms are I explain that we will not pay more because we are non smokers and that we were never told when i booked that you have no non-smoking rooms for this price blah, blah ,blah we get upgraded to a room with a view thats non smoking but has nothing more than that the room is exactly the same for amenities. We settle in 10mins and then grab our shoes and head out to find some dinner....mmm chicken wings, satay with peanut sauce and fried rice and two drinks $7 happy days on the way back to the hotel and we stop in and check how much it is for a movie to be told $8 for two people
for one movie Prince of Persia and $6 for the other movie Shrek we are not keen tonight and head to bed. The next day we went out to have a look around and find the place small and easy to walk around and we are looking for a new hotel we are booked here for three nights but we would like either a pool or somewhere cheaper in the end we go to like 15 place and end up in Seri Borneo that's cheaper and right in the centre of town one street back from the water front and the night markets.
We head back to the hotel and have a shower and soon the rain comes (same as cambodia hard, heavy and last about an hour) after this we go off to the night markets in the middle of town and find its not what we thought as the night markets are sparkly beaded jewellery, hats, bags and hundreds of borneo, sabah, Kota Kinabalu t-shirts so we walk around find a place to have dinner and then head back to the hotel.
This morning we head out to get some money travellers cheques changed at the bank and
then head off to the beach which was a mission to find out about but there is a local bus that leaves from the bus station down the far end opposite which goes to airasia terminal and the beach...its hot and the water isn't much cooler we don't swim but walk in the water along to the flash five star resort where we steal a swinging chair for 20mins and sit and enjoy the view...then we head back and get e bus back (16a is the bus number) we get back and the rain is just starting so we have a look around the shopping centre however this soon gets boring and I think the sun and heat is getting to me and I am light headed so we stop for a snack and drink and then opt for a taxi back to the hotel. Mike has a sleep and then when the rain has stopped there is an amazing sunset the moody sky is interesting and lovely with planes flying through the sunset (low) over the city and we eventually head over the road to the movies and watch Prince of persia $9 including a drink each and popcorn...however
its the first time in ages that I can hear the projector going and about 3/4 of the way through they change the roll (very quickly) and the movie carries on. Was a good movie although we think that we lost a little with the change over but great all the same we then grab some more of the same from the first night and head back to the room with one extra a large pot of potato and gravy (good on you KFC) and eat in our room.
The next morning we are to check out we get up pack our bags and have breakfast then we decided hey lets we head over and watch shrek (great movie the dragon-donkey's are so cute) so we left our bags at reception after check out and watch the movie...this worked out great as we walked straight down to Seri and our rooms were ready 😊 If we wnt straight there we would have had to wait as the check in is two and they are a busy place as they are well priced and best value we could find the same as a lot of backpackers...although its basic its
not as basic and dirty as the backpackers here! We muck around the city a lot while we are here not bothered if we do much or not....we did get up to signal hill lookout (didn't take photos not that great of a view.)
We went over to an island we were told the cost was very high but its not and in the end we could have gone more than once in total it cost just under 50myr for both of us we enjoyed the day at the beach and I loved climbing on the rocks and seeing all the fish and crabs although they are the hottest rocks I have ever walked across. I could see tropical fish coming up to eat the fish food...we swam in the sea which was warm as bath water and met a nice couple there that we chatted with for a while and then we have to go to get our speed boat back however the problem was that everyone else was on a boat we weren't we were worried we were getting left behind....then finally our boat turned up....we got on then they tried to move us to the boat
we wanted to go on...Mike refused and we stayed on for what the guy thought was going to be the ride of our lives we thought it was fun haha water plaining and thumping down on water every few mins. It was a little rough but it was funny we knew he was pissy that we didn't get off!
We picked up the families from earlier from the other island that's beautiful as well and then head back through the rain....we get back and head back to the hotel and have a freshen up.
We meeting a dutch couple that we head over to the markets with (after they checked into the same hotel we found them on the street in the rain looking for a place to stay.) for dinner and have fresh fish that they cook on the bbq for you when you order and some chicken and rice the food is so fresh and lovely.
On our last day we muck around the town looking at shops, markets and have a dodgy lunch at the local cafe with the best view....we head over and look at another shopping centre and have cake (last piece
from our favorite place secret recipe) and by the time we head back to the hotel we see there is a major fire one block over when we talk to our lovely receptionist she said that its very bad as they haven't got enough water to put it out and there maybe a lady and baby inside...we hope not!! When we leave about 40mins later it seems like the fire might be out and we hear and see an ambulance go past leaving so we are hopeful that everyone is okay...we got to the airport with too much time (as usual) but we finally leave and head for Java....
