my first hotel!!
The lobby, told you it was gorgeous! Touchdown Singapore
So I arrived in Singapore after my mammoth flight in which I watched 3 movies and plenty of sitcoms. I hopped on a shuttle bus into the city and met another solo traveller (an American girl) on the bus. We decided to go around town together, first stop was the art museum which we got a tour of. We then went to the famous Raffles hotel for lunch in the only place we could afford! I was shattered so went back to the airport for my complimentary shower, spent 1hr 1/2 trying to the find the god damn place tho!
Lost in Malaysia!!
Next stop Penang, Malaysia, where I was met off the flight by my father. Got to our hotel and I was delighted, pure luxury!! Nice chandeliers, porters, robes in our room, gym, spa, the lot!! Not really the best way to start my travelling, my standards are going to be far too high for hostels now!! The next day my dad had to work so I was left to my own devises, 1st stop massive buffet breakfast, for those who know me well, you will understand what this meant to me! After breakfast
I decided to hit the pool, with a degree of trepidation as I am a fatty at the moment (especially after my buffet breakfast) and I had to put my bikini on. However, this worry was for nothing as I discovered it was a private pool, well ok it wasn’t but there was no one else there so it felt like it was. Next stop, a trip to the hotel spa for some waxing!! I then hit the shops in town, everything is so cheap but I have no room for any more stuff. Really weird out here; imagine all our tanning products but the opposite; out here they are whitening products, no joke, it's big business even Lancome/clinic etc do lotions.
Was then going to get a bus to check out some sights but I chickened out, still a little culture shocked and I was all alone. We had another dinner out and then the next morning I did what I pleased again. Had a mini trip to gym (just because it was there!) then pool again. Dad rented a car for after lunch and we hit the road to Taipang. I got to drive a lot of
Puala pangkor
1st beach of the trip the way which wasn’t too bad as they drive on the left. Reached Taipang ok but then it went all Pete tong. The lonely planet map of the town was awful so we spent about an hr looking for our hotel, then found another one instead. I was getting seriously stressed, my patience was REALLY tested. And to make matters worse the hotel wasn't very nice (my standards are too high already!)
The next morning we got up early and went for a bizarre breakfast (still miss my porridge) of noodles and banana stuff, not together! Luckily my dad speaks Indonesian which is the same as Malay so we got by ok. Got a jeep up a mountain and went for a walk in the jungle, well on a road in the jungle! This was pretty nice, especially when the mist came in. We then hit the road again and made our way to Puala Pangkor, we again got very lost. The road signs and maps in Malaysia are awful. So an afternoon later and we made it to the island. Had a lovely meal and good nights rest.
The next day, Sunday, we got up and went to the
beach. I took a walk to a close island to go snorkelling but the tide was too low so I just explored and then swam back to main island. Dad and I then hired some bikes and had a cycle round half of the island, very good effort from my dad I must add. It was awesome coming down the hills as climbing them was knackering and very hot.
We took the ferry trip back to the car and started the long drive back to Penang and guess what happened, yup we got lost again!! Bloody road signs. Anyway made it back and are staying in another gorgeous hotel. Only get one night here though so won’t be able to make use of the facilities, boo! Off to the Philippines and on my lonesome now, aahhh the scary part, wish me luck………….
Ok actually here in phili now, in a dingy hostel which is pretty scary by yourself but tmrw I fly to meet the volunteer organisation so I will be fine, will report more soon xxx
