We made our way from Singapore to Melaka, Malaysia. We got a coach from Singapore and went through immigration at the Malaysian border, Johor Bahru. We got another bus, which took us to our station at Larkin before we took another coach to Melaka! On the way, there were rows and rows of palm trees and forestation, concentrated together like we've never seen before. The scenery was so incredibly green. When we got to Melaka, a quick hop on a decrepid local bus took us round the corner from our hostel The Traveller's Lodge. The owner was really laid back and wanted us to rest before giving him money or anything, the room only cost us 7.00 a night for both of us! We rested for a short while, then headed out.

Having eaten already, we set off into town and walked into the park and sat down before looking at the massive models of the airplane and train. We then headed to the Melaka Maritime Museum which was inside a ship which told about the history of the ports in Melaka. We had to take our shoes off before we went into the museum, but Natalie not realising that you didn't have to take shoes off until you went inside the museum and not outside, stupidly endured the extremely hot ground before going in! After leaving the museum it was so hot, we went to the shopping mall on the way back and bought an ice drink which has jelly pearl sweets at the bottom for a really cheap price and then we went back to the hostel for some rest.

After waking up later than planned, due to the heat we had a shower and went out back along the river further into town to get some dinner. Toe saw before that there was lightening from the hostel, and about 10mins after walking outside it started to rain heavily and this was the only time since coming to SE Asia that Natalie forgot her umbrella! After getting wet we stood under a mcdonalds for a while then we carried on into town. The night was really quiet, and chinatown was completely empty but the lighting made it so scenic. We found a small restuarant where you sit outside and both had nasi goreng, which was a rice dish with squid, chicken, anchovies and spices which was delicious and only cos around 1.20 each. After eating, we went to the fountain next to christchurch and the melaka art gallery near chinatown and then, fancying a drink went to a bar called Discovery Cafe. A street away you could hear a woman singing and she was providing the singing entertainment for the evening. The bar was also a backpackers hostel and it was very open, with tables outside and then a small stage for the woman who was singing. We had two tiger bears each. One can of tiger bear was the same price of our whole meal earlier, so it was more expensive - won't be having many more for a little while. The bar was so relaxing and the locals seem jovial. One thing we've noticed since being in Malaysia so far is how the locals are so friendly and laid back. When we went back to our hostel, one of the malaysian owners invited us to have a few rums with him in the hostel living room, we chatted and beat Toe at a board game! Then, off to bed around 2.30am

Today - We'll keep this short as we have to now get off to the Light and Sound show at 9pm. We went to get some breakfast over the road from our hostel and had watermelon juice, the local breakfast nasi lomak (coconut rice, curry, chicken and spinach) and fried toast with egg, syrup, beef and sausage filled with cheese! Then wandered around town, near the fountain and got some guava juice where we met a french/south african lady traveller and sat with her talking about our travelling plans. Afterwards, we walked up to St Pauls church, a ruin with no roof. It was getting extremely hot at this point- We've come to realise that we don't have to do everything in the short space of time which we have in in between our main destinations. This is a really nice stop off but we are off to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow and plan to take it easy between trips to our must see places. Otherwise a combination of the heat and weariness will get the better of us more and more each day. Best pop of now but we will update this sometime next week after a few days in Kuala Lumpur. Lots of love to everyone, Natalie and Toe. xxxxxxx
