Borneo
These were flowers that I always intended to take a picture of but forgot till just before we left October 13, 2010 --- Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
On this trip I should mention that we have been joined by a very special passenger Winifred a cute little bear who is travelling around the world with her grandmother Elizabeth. Winifred has her own passport and has adopted a baby bear from Japan to join her on this adventure.
When one refers to this part of the world, you recognize Singapore but not often Kuala Lumpur. Singapore is located on a tiny corner of Malaysia. The capital of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur. One of the first things that strike a visitor from most Western counties is the buildings and the construction everywhere. The biggest difference is that it almost appears that they must have a continual architectural contest to design and build different buildings. The tall box or rectangle type office buildings that we are use to just have no place here. While I am mentioning observations another has to be the youth of the people, there seems to be a lot more young people in a crowd than one would find back home in Toronto. One cannot miss the huge mosques, there may be poverty all around but the mosques
Leaving the Rasa Ria in Borneo
When we left the staff came out to give us a lovely send-off are huge, beautiful and well maintained. It is obvious that Malaysia is a Muslim country, however I didn’t fully appreciate how ingrained it is into the culture until we went to the Malaysian museum, where they record the history of Malaysia. In the depictions of their development according to the museum everything that was good came with the arrival of Islam, even though they had city states with Sultans, trade with other parts of the world.
In terms of cities Kuala Lumpur is a huge spread out and built around motor vehicles, which translates into numerous traffic jams. It is also potentially very hazardous for pedestrians; there seems to be few signals for people to cross intersections and if there are cars turning at corners have priority. I have included some photos from our city tour and pictures from a visit to the Twin Towers which unfortunately we were unable get up to one of the site-seeing areas. However we did make it to the communication tower and took a number of shots there.

As a Building Engineer I was impressed with the hi rise structures. Also I believe I know one of the dance volunteers.
