"Our" beach in Pulau Pangkor
Our next destination on the trip was Pulau Pangkor, a small island on the west coast of Malaysia. Pangkor turned out to be a cute, quiet and low key-resort with nice beaches and very cute pink taxis. We stayed at a hostel right next to the beach and slept our nights in a small simple hut. We enjoyed the beachlife and the relaxed atmosphere of the island and just laid back for two days. We also met up with Anna and Ville and had some excellent seafood, again... I noticed that the sun was a bit stronger than I expected and I've now moved from sunblock 20 to 50!

After resting for a couple of days we were ready for some action again. We took an early morning ferry and continued with a Super VIP-bus towards Cameron Highlands, 1500 meters above sea level. The weather surprised us by resembling the finnish summer weather to the point we almost got homesick: warm days, cold nights and loads of rain. We only had one full day to check out the sights, because we wanted to attend the Malaysian wedding we'd been invited to. So we went for an earlyish morning trekk in

the jungle and almost got lost. After that we went to see one of the many tea plantations inthe area. We walked through a tea plantation and went for a cup of the local brew.

In Pulau Penang we met up with Pika, our friend from KL. It was like seeing an old friend again! The wedding was very different from a finnish wedding. When we got there we found out, that this was actually the fourth and the last day of the wedding! The festivities of that day were ment for the family and friends of the groom, a small party of about 800 guests! So I guess it wasn't such a big thing we were crashing their wedding after all. First all the guests had lunch in the big hall were the wedding festivities took place. There were so many people, that it seemed a bit chaotic to us. Only after a couple of hours the newly wed couple turned up and had to sit on a stage were everybody could see them. To spice it up a little bit there was also a drag show with wedding dresses... Pretty liberal don't you think!

met during our stay in Malaysia said to us we should go to Langkawi, a duty free island in the norrthwestern corner of the country. Reading from the Lonely Planet-guide it sounded a bit touristy and we weren't actually that keen on going, but since everyone kept convincing us we thought: What the hell, let's go and see for ourselves! And yes we loved it! We stayed at Zachry's Guesthouse right next to the beach. We thought it would be a good idea to rent some scooters so we could see a bit more of the island. The second I sat down on my scooter I regretted it. What had I been thinking? I don't know how to ride a scooter! And I'm not used to driving on the left side of the road! The first half an hour I was sweating like a pig and swearing that if I survived this day I would never ever do this again. We were driving up a curvy mountain road and when I reached a place to rest there was about three cars and five scooters driving behind me impatiently. But at the end of the day I got the hang of

it and actually started enjoying it. Now I can't wait for the next opportunity to rent a scooter! In the evenings we usually found ourselves in Sunba, a very cosy bar about 200 m from our hostel. We were hanging out there so much that we actually became friends with the staff!

Here's some news for all of you back home: I'm in LOVE and I'm not ashamed to tell the whole world! I've totally fallen in love with Malaysia! The best thing about it is the people. It feels like Malaysia is a country full with friendly people who all want to become your friends. The people are genuinly interested in where you come from and who you are. People come up to talk to us and ask us where we're from and give us travelling tips. I can't really begin to describe how wonderful our stay has been and it's with mixed feelings of sadness and curiosity about our next destination, Thailand, that we travel onwards!
