So sad to leave Vang Vieng! I wish we had another day there to go tubing, but we already changed our flight, so we have to go back. Boo.
Our bus was supposed to leave at 13:00, so we went to eat lunch first at Kangaroo Sunset. Had a jacket potato (this was really just sliced boiled potato), pina colada, garlic bread, and meat which came out to be 115,000. We went to the bus station via minibus and another minibus came at 13:30, then another at 13:50, an then the big bus finally came at 14:05. Being an hour late leaving, we got to Vientiane at about 18:15 and quickly found other white people trying to get on a tuk tuk bus to take us to the center of the city. We could either take the: tuk tuk truck for 15,000 each or the minivan with AC for 50,000 each. Needless to say, we went for the cheaper option, hopped in the truck, and waited. To get going, some men pushed the truck down the road a bit, but that didn't take, so another tuk tuk truck came, reversed into the back of our truck, and we were off!
When we got there Ronald went to the ATM, then we went to get our backpacks at RD, but they didn't have anything available so we left our stuff there to try to find room at another place. We found a private room at Saysolay for 120,000 so we took it!
For dinner we went to Sticky Fingers which was pricey, but good. I had a taco salad, we shared garlic bread, and Ronald had the falafel. I also ordered a Slippery Nipple which came to me in a shot glass and tasted like liquorice. I did not know that Sambuca had that flavor and will never order that again. So I got a Pina colada to wash it down and then we left to find a place where we could get a drink and that had wifi. Our wifi in the guest house was terrible, and Ronald needed to work a bit, so this was our mission.
We found Khop Chai Deu Restaurant & Bar and went in there because there were wifi signs everywhere. I LOVED this place and wished we had found it sooner! It had an upstairs and downstairs, with a couple of balconies, seating inside and out, and live music every night. Unfortunately, the wifi wasn't working so we left without getting anything. We knew that The Spirit House had wifi from when we were there before, so we decided to go there, not realizing how far away it really was from where we were. Pretty much right after we got there they asked us to move outside so they could ready the inside for breakfast. We outstayed the staff and when we walked home we passed the street vendors, but my cute sandals weren't there! I was trying to be responsible and not buy them at first sight, wait and see if they were being sold in Vang Vieng, and then buy whatever was the best price, (which I didn't do with my pants and paid double) but my plan backfired! So now I am cute-sandalless and sad. I hope I see them in Vietnam.
Also, I will never again take my malaria pill at night. I barely slept and felt drugged for most of it...very weird.
Technical Details * forgot to mention this, but if the bathroom does have toilet paper, it's usually pink and with no perforations
