Got picked up early from the guesthouse at 8.40am...looked promising, how wrong we were! It sould have taken 5 hours, it took 7! Amazing scenery though so that compensated. Vang Vieng is a really small town and tourists seem to all go there for one thing...tubing! (going tomorrow). Apparently, this is a pub crawl with a twist...each pub is located on the riverside and you get from one pub to the next on an inflated rubber ring...sounds mental, we'll see!
We met some people on our bus, Laura and Hannah and Sinead and Malacky, we all stayed at the same guesthouse, cost 50,000 kip per room (4 quid). Same same but different (SE Asia saying) places we've stayed. Bed bug sheet out for this one and sleeping bag liner!
Had a wander round, bite to eat, pad ka paw for me (chicken, basil and rice), fish and rice for Baz, both really tasty. Watched friends while we were there, Baz claims to hate it but I caught him laughing at least 5 times. Thats another mad thing about Vang Vieng, about 80% of the bars/restaurants show episode after episode of friends and they're packed with travellers who are suffering hangovers from the day before of tubing, be there on tuesday then...ha!
Went down to a few bars met up with Liz and Alex from Luang Prabang and had drinks with them on the hammocks in bucket bar, drinking buckets...not more whiskey and coke!
