‘Tis the season. It’s that time of year when we all make promises to ourselves about how next year will be even better. I’m already coming up with my own list of resolutions, everything from vowing to speak Lao conversationally by March to swearing that I’ll exercise every day (yes, riding my bike to work counts).

Pencils of Promise has not only always believed in the power of a pencil (A Pencil Transforms ), but also in the power of a promise. That’s why we are launching our season of promises campaign, asking any of you who are able to donate $10/month in 2011. Your donation is enough to send a child to school for a year. Even if you can’t donate, take a look at the campaign website and write up your own promise to yourself or to others on the site’s wall – and read some of the promises that are already up there! These types of promises really do make the world a better place to live.
