A broken down bus on a lonely bumpy road was something we did not want to experience knowing we had a long ways to go before arriving in Luang Prabang. When another bus pulled over we did not think twice and hopped on the bus heading to Luang Prabang. After a total of 15 hours on the road we finally made it. The journey was long, slow and windy but we had to find energy to search for a hotel in the dark with a black thunder cloud hovering above. After a long bargain to get a ride to the road with all the guesthouses we found one just in time before the rain poured.
It was a nice treat when we took a few days to rest and enjoyed a sandwich with fresh bread every morning at "Scandinavian Bakery." Luang Prabang was a small touristy town with old French Colonial buildings and with green lush jungle as a backdrop. Although there were more tourists there than locals it was a nice place to explore for a few days in the cozy town. A massive night market was set up every night with red tents lined up for more than
2 big blocks selling jewelry, blankets, scarfs, lamps...and the list goes on! While we were in town we took a short tour to the Kouangxi Waterfall. A short, steep and slippery hike to the top of the fall to see the valley and enjoyed a cold swim.
