Don Det has a vast array of "Happy Items" maybe thats why the food was so good?
After spending a rather uninspiring two nights in Vientiane traveled by "sleeper bus" down to Pakse which is the close to the 4000 islands area of southern Laos. That was interesting, as the oversold the bus and wanted me to sleep in a 3 foot buy 3 foot box with another person, ended up sitting in the very back where i had at least a little bit of room to stretch the legs, felt sorry for the person on my side and also in front of me. had to check out of my room in the morning and walked around in the heat until the bus left at night, needless to say i was a little ripe and my feet aren't too pretty or clean for that matter. sucks for them! Also my feet will no longer get clean, like a perma-dirt casing. I guess that maybe it protects me from the streets of South East Asia!! After leaving Pakse I took a mini bus and then boat to Don Det, which is one of the mentioned 4000 islands. Cool place to chill i met some really cool Canadian guys and we pretty much would spend the day tubing around in

the bridge that connects the 2 islands that I checked out, also before the bike ride from hell.
the river and swimming cause it was so hot. at night we would buy a bottle of Lion King Whiskey (affectionately called "Simba" ) and some pepsi and hang out at the beach singing in circles and practicing other hippie rituals. One day we rented bikes to check out a waterfall and also hopefully see some of these really rare/endangered freshwater dolphins. What ended up happening was us getting lost on really crappy Chinese bikes with two flat tires and getting directions from a local guy with both a machete and a gun. Wasn't too funny at the time but looking back it was definitely an adventure. Turns out we went the wrong way down a road and were too stubborn to go back. Figures. Even with all that this place was a very easy place to lose a few days or weeks or years as i realized after talking to a few people who lived there. Was sad to leave but my visa for Laos was running out and i had to get down to where i am now, Cambodia!! Had a day from hell to get down here, what with the dollars dropped on every border guard to
Crazy bridgeCrazy bridgeCrazy bridge

we had to cross some of the most unsafe bridges i have ever seen, but still i thought it was a lot of fun checking out the part of the islands that not many foreigners get to see.
get my passport back and also the over-filled, hot, minibus/boat that i was constantly herded into/outof. I was meant to make it to Siem Reap but instead got left here in Phomn Phen, where i am now. Was supposed to get a wake up call that never came, oh well. Leaving tomorrow morning for Siem Reap where i will be checking out Angkor Wat and hopefully having a detox session, but then again who knows?
