I don't recall myself having seen a spring as lively as this one. Sure enough that the change of seasons is gradually visible in any place of the world. However there is more to the spring in Japan than anywhere else. First of all, it's people's anticipation of spring. As soon as the plum trees are blooming to farewell the winter, most people here have already started to organize Hanami (cherry blossoms viewing) events weeks before the flowers begin to grace their beauty.

Well, if that doesn't impress you, I've got more to tell. The Chinese say,"一年之计在于春"(a year's plan starts with spring). But the Japanese have taken it to the limit. It is not at all exaggerating to say that the spring is the fresh start in Japan. The first day of April is filled with jokes to embarrass the gullible in the western countries. However, it is a significant day that should be taken seriously in Japan. It marks the beginning of the Japanese government's fiscal year. Corporations and schools will have a new team of administration. Schools will have a new grades of students. People starting to move around. So as for right now before the big day

arrives, the beginning of spring is filled with anticipation and even a little bit of anxiety in the air. All the teachers at my school locked themselves up for a whole day of meeting when the announcement of the change of staffs is given and a new year's plan is made. Next week, all the Junior High School graduates will be locked in their desired Senior High Schools to complete the entrance exams. Everything is cruelly confidential at this moment.

Let's wait until the cherry trees start to bloom, when all the conjectures will be removed by the fresh breezes of spring.
