Hello world,
Today for our 4th wedding anniversary we went to Tokyo Disneyland.
Disneyland is one of those places that as a child you always dreamed if your parents would somehow win the lottery be able to take you to go live there. Well, as most children, i was no different. I had an unnatural obsession with the little mermaid (my mum can attest to this). So much was my love for the red-headed singing little rebel, that for a school book parade i felt like the luckiest girl in the world to adorn the stage in a sparkly purple shell bikini bra and green skirt that had a mermaid tail sown to the front were your feet would poke out the back allowing little feet to shuffle about. I was hooked. Disney had spun its magic on me from an early age and it's movies and stories continues still today to capture my imagination and wonderment.
Getting to Disneyland was not so magical, Brad, has somehow mastered the art of the Tokyo metro, JR rail and bus system so well that we only had to catch a total of 6 trains and two buses to reach and
return from our destination. Brad and I have travelled around Sydney before, but navigating the Tokyo train system is like trying to do open heart surgery with only a picture (which is not in your native tongue) to go off. In this scenario, i was the patient. As most couples that have been together for a while (we are going into our 8th year together) trust, has a big part to play. I held tight to my husbands hand and he did not falter, not even once. We made it to and from Disneyland without issue. What i will say to people flirting with the idea of coming to Tokyo is, make sure you buy a JR rail pass before you come and also try and get you hands on the 3 day metro cards, that way you could pretty much jump on any train you like. Since we did not purchase the JR rail passes we have been using only the Metro, which is okay but certainly requires a lot more planning and negotiating of train lines.
Once we arrived, we walked straight past the massive lines of people waiting to buy tickets, scanned our barcodes from our
preprinted tickets and we were in! We soon discovered that it was also Christmas themed which made it even more magical (like most people, I love christmas time, i think it brings the best out in everyone, religion or not) Our first stop was for ears. You know the mini-mouse ears and i was ecstatic to see a pair with a massive big sparkly bow! i was in love and had to have them. Brad was torn between a Goofy hat or Donald Duck... anyone that has had the honour of hearing Brads Donald Duck impression would understand why he was torn. He decided not to purchase either and that he would use the day to decide.
First thing we saw after the massive christmas tree, was of course Cinderella's Castle... That's when i got a little choked up (i held it together though) and neither Brad nor the masses of Japanese people caught on, that i was actually having a moment. lol we took a million photo's and then the morning parade commenced... I was so excited to see all my beloved characters that at one point, i though i was filming the parade when in fact, i
wasn't. When the parade was over, it was time to decide what todo first, so in staying with the theme, we went INSIDE Cinderella's Castle! we saw the story of Cinderella through paintings and glass cases of beautifully constructed art works, then to top it off, i got to sit in her thrown... it twinkled. I unapologetically loved every single second of it.
From there we went to my next must see, which was the Haunted Mansion, which was also Nightmare Before Christmas themed... the line was already a 40 minute wait, so we decided to see what the FastPass business was. We got our fast pass and planed on returning at 12:05pm to complete the ride. We went wondering, got a coffee that was so gross neither of us finished it, then headed back. The ride was dark and therefor impossible to take any great pictures but it was also AWESOME!
Now, for me to go through and describe every single ride i would have to be up all night, and to be honest... we are only now eating dinner and it is now 10:30pm, so i really can not muster enough energy to do that. So
here's the quick version:
Star wars - awesome, 3D and we both screamed like the Japanese school girls that were sitting in the back row.
Splash Mountain - awesome, rollercoaster, waiting 1 hr and 30 minutes in line because we didn't get in early enough to get a fast past (big mistake), was it worth it? jury is still deliberating.
Tea cups - great, maybe Brads #1, we both felt dizzy, a little sick, and thrilled all while staring into one another's eyes... kinda like was falling in love feels like, if you crammed it into a 30 second ride, i think.
Pirate of the Caribbean - Possible my fav, great atmosphere, and done on a massively huge and unexpected scale.
Mark Twain River Boat Cruise - relaxed and a bit uneventful, good one for young families with babies
Snow whites adventure - really surprisingly scary... didn't see that one coming
We did lots of other things throughout the day, and had a set menu lunch at the Blue Bayou Restaurant. We decided we had enough just before the light parade was about to start, But we had one more stop before we
could depart and make the long journey home (which also required us to stop at the chemist and also the grocery store to resupply food and drinks) Brad need to bite the bullet and decide which hat it was going to be... (mind you, he had been nagging my all day to tell him which one to pick, but i knew the decision had to be his) so finally after an entire day of back and forth... he went with Donald Duck and bless him, he even did his impression for the girl behind the counter when i prompted him... she giggled nervously and handed him his change.
So with our feet ready to detach themselves and quit us completely, we were homeward bound. we made our necessary stops on the way, once we walked through the door i immediately jumped into the bath to soak my feet, once the bath was no longer working for me, I jumped out and tried to have a glass of wine and decompress about the day with Brad, but having not been able to finish 1 entire glass of wine and using the down time to respond to a few lovely anniversary
message on FB, i decided to write my blog post. We ate a dinner of chicken red curry which brad prepared, neither of us having enough energy to even wait for rice to cook. So, that brings us to now.
Tomorrow, we do it all again but this time we are hitting up Tokyo DisneySea! Were i will do my upmost best to meet my childhood idol and hopefully still have feet by the end of it. which will bring us to Friday, we have decided that after these two massive days we will take it easy, we may finally make it up Tokyo Skytree (which is like Centre point tower in Sydney) and maybe head to Shibuya if we are feeling up for it... nothing set in stone at this stage.
Disneyland, you didn't disappoint, I only hope DisneySea can stack up.
Sayonara for now lovely peoples, see you out there in the big bad xo Bradaline xo
