I've just got one word..GYOOOZA!!!
And lovin' it! This has become a tradition after going out! (hence why the Gyoza man loves us!) After a lot of pestering, mum and dad finally decided to come and visit me in Japan!
Sunday Amy and I just arrived back in Tokyo from Hokkaido and checked into another hostel, ready to meet mum and dad the next morning. Mum called that night and said that their flight had been delayed and they were spending the night in Kuala Lumpur. Now our plans for me showing them round Tokyo couldn't happen, so instead of hanging around Tokyo for the day, Amy and I caught the shink back home in the morning.
Mum and dad arrived in Tokyo later and came straight to Shizuoka (mainly cause Tokyo was too scary) and Amy and I were waiting for them at the station. After we showed off our super cool car park, we walked around the city and (eventually) found somewhere to eat. The city was packed for a Sunday because there was some kind of street festival on.
Later on, we arrived at the mansion and gave mum and dad the royal tour which took all of 20 seconds!
Monday Lazed around at home in the morning and then walked around our neighbourhood with mum and dad, showing
them a cool park, a temple and The Shizu - our local supermarket! Mrs Nagata, our boss, had organized a barbeque at her place with some of the kindy staff. It was a great and very hilarious night! All I can say is that every time we have a bbq, I will think of this night…and all the comments dad was making about how you really should cook a bbq!!!
Tuesday Today, we took mum and dad to one of the best shops ever...The Lemon (100Yen) Shop and into the city where we did lots of taste testing, saw the castle and all its moats and went to the top of the Prefectural Office building where we could see a 360 view of the city and about a cm of Mt Fuji as it hid behind clouds. We also watched a 3D movie about Shizuoka and walked around Sumpu Park and a traditional Japanese garden. For dinner, we went to a Japanese restaurant called Fukuichi.
Wednesday There was a festival on in Mishima so we decided to do a day trip. We drove to Fuji in crazy traffic, so left the car there and took the shink the
rest of the way to Mishima. The festival was like all festivals, lots of colour, nice setting, people dressed in costumes and traditional clothing and, of course, great food!
Back at home, we got ready to go out for the evening and caught the bus into town. We arrived at the bus stop, making it with 20 seconds to spare as usual, and traditionally sat at the back - cool peoples’ seat. First we went to a bar called Dexee. It is filled with many antiques and has the coolest toilet ever. (Yes, mum, the rope and picture was strange!) We then went to a restaurant for dinner and then on to our famous bar, Our Boozer. We had some drinks, many drinks, and hung out there chatting to randoms, till it was time for GYOOOZA!
Gyoza, for us in Japan, has become like Maccas after a big night out (I don't know how I'll survive without it when I'm back home)! So we ordered four serves from the Gyoza Man, and waited at Our Shibuya crossing till they were ready. At that time of the night, we all agreed it was the best thing ever!!!
