Edit Blog Post
My year of teaching and experiencing living in Japan is nearly over! Sniff sniff!
I have been a little slack keeping my blog up to date but here are some photo highlights from October and November…enjoy! (it’s not the last so keep checking!)
October in brief... *Amy's parents and grandma came to Shizuoka and we went to Fujigoko (see previous blog)
*Kindy Sports Day - It was a beautiful day and the parent paparazzi were definitely out!
*Road Trip - Amy and I hired a car so we could use the GPS to get to Saitama Arena near Tokyo as we had tickets to the Mariah Carey concert. On the way, we stopped to do some shopping at the Gotemba Premium Outlets Shopping Mall - great! We left with (what we thought was) plenty of time to get to Saitama Arena. We never could have predicted the crazy amount of traffic we encountered, even on the expressway!!! At one stage, we were literally moving only a couple kilometers an hour! Amy and I have never been in such bad traffic in all our lives, we will never forget it (or forgive Tokyo for it!). We eventually
did arrive at Saitama Arena at 8pm. After more trouble finding the right entrance, we finally were inside and found our seats. Now for the big disappointment…we only made it in time to see her last three songs!!! After that horrible afternoon and night of driving in the traffic, we
were grateful to see any of the concert at all!
What concert finishes at 8:30pm anyway??…another reason to be pissed off! So we got some food and drove all the way back to our lovely, hassle free city, Shizuoka.
Since we still had the hire car, we went on another, much more successful road trip on Sunday. We drove to Honkawane Town, and then checked out a cool suspension bridge I had seen photos of and always wanted to go to. It was quite an adventure getting there as the road was quite steep and windy. It was also very narrow, and was a bit of a heart stopper when another car was approaching from the opposite direction.
*Halloween Party - Dress up time! Amy and I put in a lot of effort into our pirate costumes right down to small details such as a broken compass! Haha!
Now it feels like Christmas...just waiting for some snow!
Our tree! Last night we watched Home Alone...ahh the memories haha November in brief…
- Bought and set up our Christmas tree!
- Took some music and champagne to the park and drank on a Saturday evening before going out!
- Daidogei World Cup of Street Performers in Shizuoka City. Soaked in the atmosphere around the city and Sumpu Park.
- Christmas Concert mania at kindy - non stop practicing!
- First glimpse of Mt Fuji since our trip in October!
- Many nights of drinking at Boozer and crazy water and ice fights! Thanks Mario for all the vodka shots…you’re crazy!!
- Driving with Amy and Simon - To Nihondaira for some Fuji spotting then to check out Mario’s work - Taisho-en bonsai nursery. We also went to the hospital to visit one of our Aussie friends, Joel, who just had a baby. We weren’t actually allowed to see it as we just missed the ‘viewing time’!!! Don’t understand that, strange Japanese rules!
