Keep on Moving - A Final Kampai!
was the name of the rockin joint farewell party for Leo, Maiko, Yara, Kako and myself to celebrate four plus years of friendship and adventures all over Sapporo and Japan. We had all decided that it was time to move on (Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia) and wanted to bring our extended group of friends together for a final kampai!
Things kicked off around 1 in the morn with Rob V. playing a sweet accoustic set and he did a kick arse job considering he was the first man up. Volansky's voice was so powerful that a mic was not actually needed, but rain jackets or umbrellas could've helped those within ten feet of the stage - he really gets that saliva going ;-)
From there Mario brought his Brazilian brilliance to the stage impressing us all with his unique style of samba/bossa nova/jazz, as well as showing of his Mario color coordination: green and black silk suit with bright white sports sox - only in Brazil!
Following some unexpected but much appreciated farewell speeches (thanx Yara and Meg) Percussion Unites came on and laid down some pumpin' Senegalese
and Kenyan beats. Yara added some Middle Eastern spice with her sexy belly dancing as the beer'n'wine continued to flow, flow, flow...
Once the live beats had finished it was time for DJ Yass and DJ Nakoshi to get on the decks and go back to back to back! laying down some rockin progressive house toonz as the party really got cranking. Memory a little vague from here in (i apparently had a long conversation thanking the barman from Plastic Theatre for making me all those strong rum n cokes over the last four years, and also spent some time horizontal on the dance floor) and before anyone knew it it was 6am in the morning. We did the 'Cmon Yass just one more track! routine for as long as poss before people scattered to all four corners of Sapporo for more boozing, eating, or sleeping. All in all a great nite!
Was totally cool to bring our crew of friends together and have people from North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, Australia and Japan show off their musical skills. Thanks to all that played and for a great four plus years in Sapporo. Kako and
Rob V
