When we arrived in Bali the cloud of sad thoughts was upon us....were we really to leave Asia in just 10 days? It was kind of hard to believe, considering that we have spent past 11 months exploring different corners of that vast continent. We still had a lot of places to see on our list but no time left to see it all. Have we miscalculated the amount of time we needed to complete this part of our... Read Full Entry

Happy travels...
I'll be sorry to see your gorgeous beachy photos to brighten up a cold UK evening but will really be looking foward to hearing all about your travels in South America, you will love it there I'm sure but you are right that the tan won't last long! Keep a moisturiser handy as those altitudes really dry out your skin! We are currently trying to decide our route for next year and your blog may have just made up our minds (not to be tempted to give Bali another chance!)... thanks guys :)

thanks guys!
you are always welcome hahaha I think some parts of Asia are not the same anymore... not backpackers friendly and not special at all...Bali, Boracay, Krabi just being examples... looking forward to read your stories...then I will be sitting in an office in London and dreaming of travels;-) Beata

I started reading your blog after you stoked my nostalgia for the islands when visiting the Togians. I travelled for four-months around the Indonesian archipelago in 1998, just after the fall of Suharto, which was a tumultuous time. It is to this day one of the most enriching destinations I have visited, though I have been increasingly hesitant to go back, for fear these memories will be supplanted by a different Indonesia; one that screams increasingly pessimistically from the blogs I read; spearheaded by Bali\'s (apparent) relentless fall from grace. Good luck in South America, it will be interesting to read your observations, particularly after having spent this time in Asia immediately beforehand. Enjoy the ride ;-)

Thanks for the insights and have fun in S. America
I've been silently following you around Asia, and been enjoying the blogs and the photo's. The good thing (for me) is I will be closely following in your footsteps on my next trip, hitting Malaysia, Sarawak, Sabah, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, and your blogs have given me an idea about prices, and things to see and do. Well, in the end, like all good travellers I will of course make up my own mind, about where to go, but a sneak preview is always appreciated and helpful. On another note, I know exactly what you mean about going to places you actually already know you won't be to you liking, simply because you are curious what all the fuss is about. Luckily for me, I already visited Bali and Lombok back in 1989, so I don't feel the need to go and see it again. I shall be concentrating on the 'upper' half of Indonesia. Finally, have a blast in S. America and don't fret too much about the tan, depending on where you go, you might be able to prolong it for longer than you think :)

Thank you;-)
Really appreciate your comment Ralf. We are always especially happy when our blogs can help other with planning and decision making. Of course it is all very subjective and best thing to do is to go and see it yourself (maybe except for those spoiled places hahha) we are having a lot of fun (and sun) i S. America so far;-) cheers, B&T

our bungalow in Gili Meno

This looks like the place where we stayed as well... we may have been in the same guesthouse! (except we were there nearly 4 years ago!)... but for me, Gilli Air was one of my favourite places in Indonesia, but it probably has changed a lot since we were there :o(

our bungalow in Gili Meno

hi
Thanks for your comment Deni and Dax. This guesthouse is actually in Gili Meno ... so not sure if it is really the same;-) I am sure it has changed a lot since and we believe there are nicest places to see in Indonesia;-) But that also depends what one likes, it is all subjective in the end;-) Beata

No rush no fuss
It is impossible to pick the "right" amount of time to explore an area. Seems we always want a little more. Your last sunset in Asia was beautiful but who know what the future holds and you may return. Now to SA cultures and lovely people.
