Hi Everybody!
When we first arrived in Bali, it looked like a cross between the Bahamas of the 60's and Mexico today. I wasn't sure that I was going to like it. All of our airports have been very modern. Bali's is old and not as efficient. Life goes at a slower pace here. We are staying on the beach in the southern part of the island in an area known as Kuta. We have decided to just take this time for R & R. We don't want to go on any tours to see elephants, monkeys, or volcanoes. We may want to someday come back to this island. Our hotel sits on the beach and is very attractive. The pool is a huge cloverleaf shape with a swim-in bar. You can sit on the beach and have a shoulder or foot massage, pedicure, manicure, braids, etc. I had several of those and enjoyed every minute. Things are very inexpensive here and especially crafts. Once you step off the hotel property, the people start hustling you. No other place has been like that on this trip. There are many scooters here and the same was true in Taiwan. The people are friendly, the weather is beautiful (80-90's), and the scenery is spectacular. I am going to try to put a few pictures on the blog. We met a nice couple from Australia today that visit Bali often. She told me on her last trip that she bought 17 pr. of shoes and 9 purses. That is my kind of woman! We also met a nice couple from S. Africa who would like to move to the U.S. but hate to give up their servants. I suggested they try Mexico. You sure can't have many servants today in the U.S.
Take care,
E
