Now we are sitting in the train, hopefully about and hour away from Delhi. I just cracked out the last couple of days and as I'm on a roll decided to start this one as well. Mostly because I'm keeping my eye out for the cockroaches that are scuttling up the wall next to us. I'd just slept against that wall for the best part of 3 hours. Now I'm feeling completely paranoid that something might crawl in my clothes and have stuffed my trousers in my socks and moved Duncan to the window seat. In fear of one that Dunc flicked away, I even managed to almost spill my tea all over myself. Duncan is going to be picking the bags up off of the floor when we leave... I DON'T LIKE BUGS.
After a gruelling journey (more stomach turning in my eyes) we arrived in Delhi just a wee bit later than planned. And like clockwork there was someone waiting us up to drive us to the hotel. We stopped by the travel office which welcomed us with open arms and used us to their recommendation devices (clients with questions). The hotel was a couple of stops from Connaught Place although it felt miles away.
After arriving eventually at the hotel the porter offered to get us a few beers, a quick glance at each other said enough and we immediately both agreed. Then went for a look around and ended up in a slightly over priced restaurant so I suggested just having a drink, a glass of wine later and we'd ordered a bottle, then a meal. After not drinking for a while the booze hit us a bit harder than usual and we decided to have a bit of a new years eve eve celebration at about 6 in the evening so by 6,30 we were back in the hotel room with a couple of 80 cent bottles of rum which is actually really not that bad!! Maybe thats just after a bottle of wine... Anyway by 9.30 we were passed out. Woke up around 04.00, standardly fully clothed, tv and lights still on, and went to bed.

New Years Eve!! Last day in India. I have to say it's been a challenge. Basically the ways you can give money away here and people can take money from you are numerous. Never before have I felt so often that I shouldn't have done that, shouldn't have succumbed to the guy who showed me round the whole shop, taking everything out and off the shelves, and talked so much that I felt like I had to buy something just to make it worth his while. To make it fair, almost.
Should we have been led around the corner by a little kid with the rotten teeth that wouldn't stop asking and touching us to eventually buy him a bottle of coke? Should we feel like we have to apologise if we decide not to? Should you feel guilty whenever you don't wind down the window and hand over 10 cents to a street girl carrying a baby who's pointing at her mouth? I still don't really know. The problem's still gonna be there whatever you do, and does it really help the situation by giving a bit of cash? It's the old give a man a fish problem.
I think along with that, the overwhelming amount of attention was also difficult to handle, especially for Bex. I'm used to it of course ;-)... But the constant staring really was a bit infuriating at times, even though a lot of the time it was totally honest, you're still sometimes like "what are you f*****g lookin at!!!???".
Well today we went to see the Red Fort in Delhi. Basically it's a huge area with all different palace style accomodation, bath houses, gardens, fountains and museums. I think it was built by the same geezer who done that taj mahal one. Me old mate Emporer Shah Jahan lived there with his beautiful missus Mumtaz Mahal who ended up in her tomb at the Taj. Went to one of the museums there about the Indian's Fight for Freedom. Definitly didn't make us proud to be British! Then ashamed of our nation we ended up going back to the centre for what we heard was gonna be a party, but by the time we finished dinner the area seemed really deserted and when we sat down to check the map we were ushered away by the police. They'd just put a stop to any plans for the evening basically so we wandered off back to the hotel and had possibly the least exciting turn of the New Year in the history of mankind.
But we are gonna have a mega party for the next New Year (in a couple weeks time!!).
Duncan.
Happy New Year!!! lots of kisses and all that malarky, Dunc and Becks x
