Flight:
Had 3 seats to myself, wine was awesome and watched Juno which was funny. Jet airways, big thumbs up.
Delhi:
Arrived at Delhi Int, kind of a strange check in procedure went through customs and hugged Dave. So good to see my old friend. We then jumped in a taxi that took us to the train station. Got fooled by the tricksters, ended up not catching a train and rented a car and a driver by the name of Papu for the entire trip. Heading out of Delhi we saw a chappie in the slow lane riding his elephant; we had entered another world. It really felt as if I had stepped through some sort of portal into this crazy world where things were just not things if you know what i mean. Picked up a few massive beers for the road and we were on our way!
Shekhawati region:
Only spent one night here, saw a lot of houses with nice pictures painted onto the walls called Havelis. Had a curry in a fly infested restaurant, went to this amazing little town with a water temple in the mountains. Dave and I went on a little hike
Enlightenment
Ganesh and I having a moment to ponder the great mysteries of life. up a hill with a great view, saw lots of monkeys. Drank lots of water.
Nagur:
We decided to deviate from our original plan which was to go to Bikaner and our driver got so pissed off. He then proceeded to tell us that this couple last year on their honeymoon changed their plans with their driver and they were promptly smashed to death by an oncoming truck. Thanks Papu, you legend.
I have to admit the drive was petrifying, driving in India is bloody madness at the best of time but we were going at night down a freeway with no lights and the road was only wide enough for one car at a time. Oh and there were random camels and cows walking all over the road. Terrifying. Stayed in a dodgy hotel, joined a marriage party and Dave and I danced our asses off. It was insane, we were big hits. Had a really good curry dinner. Went to bed, woke up 4 hours later and painted the walls of the toilet with unimaginable things.
Jodhpur:
Got to Jodhpur after another long drive. The thing that just whacks you in the face when you arrive
is the massive, incredible fort on the mountain looking down on the town. I felt so so sick, i was shivering and laying in the fetal position on my stained bed sheet sweating under the rickety fan swirling over head. Dave managed to drag me up the hill to the fort. Incredible, amazing and all of the above.
Went to dinner on our roof top with Dave, he had the Egg curry- i had nothing.
Dave woke up a few hours later and destroyed our bathroom.
Ranahkpur:
Small little hill village based around the incredible temple. Dave was very sick and weak. He was still a trooper and we had a little adventure climbing some walls and dodging thorn bushes getting to the temple. Got some special pants, took some pics of the temple, walked back. Dave slept, i went up to the dam and watched sunset. Had a great talk and some chai with a man and his 3 brothers on the way back from the dam.
Pushkar:
On our way to Pushkar we stopped at Kumbalgarh fort. To get there we drove through the mountains, the mountains where tigers once roamed. It was one of the
Colours
They are so vivid in India. I love the way the women dress. best drives of my life. What we saw was incredible from the marriage rituals to the oxen ploughing the fields. It was literally like stepping back in time 150 years. The fort was mind blowing in size. Amazing views. Pushkar, the holy city on the lake. The lake of the dead. Very intense. Had my birthday there. Dave and I went on an incredible run through the desert up to a little temple that looked down the valley. Foolishly we pushed on to another shiva temple with no water and sun burning down on us. Go there, turned around. Begged for a ride. The ride was amazing. Had a nice dinner over looking the lake, had some beers with two random girls from england in the restaurant we went to for every meal we were there bar one.
Jaipur:
The Pink City. Beautiful old city. Hundreds of bizarres. Even more people. Had a milkshake from McDonalds. It was good. Watched Krazzy 4 movie in theater. Found an awesome, dingy, smokey bar to watch IPL cricket in. Attended a wedding reception. Had an amazing old school black and white pic taken together. Saw the amber palace. Went to an actual
In the slow lane
We were on the main freeway out of Delhi and there was some guy riding his Ele in the slow lane. Awesome! real supermarket.
Agra:
Saw the Taj Mahal, it was pretty amazing. Dave rode a taxi bicycle. I had a hair cut, facial and head massage. Cost me 3 pounds. Had a beer out of tea pot (muslim city) Went inside the Taj Mahal, it was pretty cool. Got the AC room, AC did not work. Shower was ridiculous. In a bad way. Had a really nice meal on a roof top terrace looking over the Taj.
Delhi:
Stayed in the back packers district, walked all over Connaught place. Watched Man utd vs Chelsea in Piccadelhi bar. Strange seeing people with money for the first time in 2 weeks. Bought a nice Zodiac shirt. Had a really good ice cream. Said adios to Dave.
Flight: Alright
Flight was fine but the lady at customs did not want to let me back in the country (long story) she eventually did and has also opened a file on me at Heathrow. Very exciting. Stupid cow.
What a trip, what an adventure. Very intense, very in your face. Great to see my boy Dave again. And Indian food in London is better than in India.
