It's been a while!
Dan - So we were on the train chatting away when a small girl no older than 11 came cartwheeling down the train aisle and then back doing some crappy dance and jumping through a hoop, so once she was done her and her mother came round with the pot to put money in. some gave, when the pot was handed to us we refused and we received glares as if they were all saying "Look the rich gorra's are so tight", let me tell you why we didn't put in bit*h, When I was 10 I had mastered the moonwalk, the running man, and could windmill, (breakdance moves) so I was simply not entertained enough. IF YOU'RE GOING TO BUSK MAKE SURE YOU CAN ENTERTAIN!!
Nic - Since we last updated we've been running around on wild goose chases and also found a good bit peace and quite, that could possibly be described by some as paradise!
Delhi was a flying visit as we will return there at the end of our India experience. Our main reason for visiting this time was to update our paper tickets at BA - A simple task
we foolishly believed! How wrong could we be??.......Well, for a start "BA, Delhi" isn't really that at all, it's more like "BA, Gargaon", which just happens to be in the next state of Punjab, with hardly any transport links. So, after 2 buses, a taxi, some random persons car, an Auto rickshaw and a minibus our mission was finally accomplished...uuuurrrrrgggghh!
From Delhi we headed to Corbett Tiger Reserve for another safari. The whole reserve is immense so it was only possible to view a small section in our designated 4 hour tour, but the scenery was outstanding. Lots of grass areas, wooded areas, and all hemmed in by soaring cliffs to one side. We found a monitor lizard fedding from one of the many termite mounds, spotted deer, barking deer, stunning birds of paradise and bee-eaters, wild elephants and...........Tiger...........pug marks, that'll teach us for being greedy and not satisfied with the one we saw before!
Dan - So arrived at Rishikesh, The Yoga and spiritual center of the universe. It's a very nice place set in a valley. It absolutly stinks of Marijuana here it's growing wild everywhere, we even happened to stumble on some that someone had
stashed in our lodge room. This place seems to attract what is known as the 'Twatpacker' let me explain they are the extreme of the backpacker brigade, Beards, dressed in robes, no shoes, eat just dhal and rice, drink the local water and wear turbans and prayer bead necklaces. Other backpackers reading this will know what I'm talking about!
Nic - We found Rishikesh to be a really nice relaxing place and I took the opportunity to brush up on a bit of yoga too, which was really nice, but that combined with all the walking up and down hills made for a very achey few days!
We had heard of a grand waterfall at the edge of town which we took the day out to visit.....and it was the best decision we've made in a long time. We were lucky enough to wonder off the beaten track and come across the most beautiful spot - a series of small waterfalls with their very own, crystal clear, rockpool sitting beneath, just begging us to jump in for a dip, THE most perfect way to cool down after a uphill hike and to spend the day relaxing!
Dan
- It was while chilling in this rockpool, we discussed karma: So alot of Hindu's come here to bathe and wash away their sins, so his has presented us with a question...one of he main beliefs of a Hindu is to live by good Karma.. fact! (a Hindu who has lived a life of good karma will be reincarnated into better circumstances...) so the fact they believe that they can wash off their bad Karma totally contradicts their beliefs and religion and taking a bath in a river and making pilgrimages from one shrine to another can't possibly free you from the bondage of Karma...........can it ????????? (Maybe I'll go rob an old lady and then make it all ok by jumping in the river??!!) at the same time of thinking this I was actually reading the book 'The DaVinci Code' so am thinking of staying away from religious beliefs for the time being unless I find one that makes sense to me.
Off to Shimla next, in the mountains.
