Our Kodaikanal Honeymoon
We started our journey from Chennai on Aug 12th by Ananthapuri Express to our native Trivandrum after a very long gap of 6 months. The train managed to reach TVM @ 1PM with a 2hour delay.
We were pleased to see our native which welcomed us with a nice climate unlike the metro Chennai.
We had a 1 week stay in TVM with our family, enjoyed homemade food. Days passed by faster than we expected and it was Aug 18 in the blink of an eye.
Our train was scheduled @ 8.25PM but to our dismay, it was 1 hour late thanks to Indian Railways. We have booked our journey from TVM to Madurai by Kollam-Madurai Passenger. But the train sped up quickly as we drowned in our sleep. Train reached Madurai on time @ 5.40am.
We became fresh at our relatives' residence and had a sumptuous breakfast. We booked a cab from Madurai for our Kodai trip.
We started our much awaited journey to Kodai @ 9.30am. Both sides of the road were covered with paddy fields with herds of sheep grazing. Our view was encountered with hefty mountains which overwhelmed us with its mightiness.
There is
120km from Madurai to Kodai. There is 48 km long zigzag hill journey. Roads were wet giving us indication that drizzles are happening often. There were drizzles in between which ceased immediately.
In between there was a small falls named, :
Silver cascade:. We took a couple of snaps which were the first ones in Kodai.
We reached the top @ 12.30pm and our stay was arranged in Hotel Bala, just opposite the Central Bus stand. We checked into our deluxe room and ordered a lunch. We felt very cool inside the room which was what we came here for. We satisfied our appetite and became fresh for the sightseeing.
We started early at about 2.30pm fearing that, there may be heavy rain in the evening which will affect our trip. We went to :
Coakers Walk: and it was fog everywhere which hampered our vision. Cold started entering our nerves and we slipped into our sweaters.
From there we went to :
Bryant Park: which had a beautiful and big garden where we could walk and take snaps. It was worth coming here.
We came to :
Kodai Lake:, which was close to our hotel. There are lot of shops, horse riding, boating,
cycling etc. We just enjoyed the sight near the lake and retired back to our room.
It was chilling cold even inside the room as our body was trying hard to adjust the low temperature.
We woke up @ 8am next morning and ordered breakfast. We started @ 10.15am and went straight to :
Suicide point:. Our sight was filled with vast amount of milky white fog which was beyond boundaries.
All the places were with 5km from our hotel and every 1km there is some spot to see. We went to :
Guna Cave:, the whole area was covered with mist, but we didn't feel much of the cold as though our body adjusted easily to the changed climate. There were lots of trees with roots protruding from the ground which helped us giving a strong ground while walking. Vision was hazy because of fog.
Driving was difficult at some places because of heavy fog. It appears suddenly and goes off without any sign. So our vision became hazy and clear often in between.
Kodai travel is incomplete without mentioning another host which welcomed us with roaring sound - monkeys. Some became very aggressive when they saw us eating boiled sweet
corn. I just threw off a piece to a monkey without eating a tiny bit as I saw him advancing towards me with a roaring sound.
There was :
Pillar rock: and a small garden on the way. Another interesting place was the
Pine forest, which were fully covered wih pine trees. And of course there were monkeys playing around which also gave us a nice posing for a snap. Their agility gave us more energy to enjoy more.
We had a sumptuous lunch @ Hilltop Towers and went back to our room for a small rest. We started again @ 3.30pm and went to :
Kurinji Andavar: temple, which was a pretty disappointing place with not even a good snap.
Then we went to the :
Chettiar Park: which was a small garden with some beautiful flowers. We had taken some good snaps there.
By now, we have covered almost all the places and again we came back to the
Kodai Lake where we went for boating and 7km cycling.
We had some shopping, snacks @ Cafe Coffee Day and came back to our room. We packed our bags for our next day’s travel back to Madurai. We had a lot of memories to take back with us.
