Well lots to update you all on as we have moved a longway since we last updated! So we will go through the basics bit by bit.
We last updated in Mount Abu and from there we got a bus (6 hours) to Udaipur. We managed to book into a nice hotel which had a lovely roof top restaurant with views over the lake and surrounding area. Although lake picolo has suffered from the monsoons and is not as beautiful as im sure it once was its still a really nice setting. The surrounding area is our favorite so far, all the shops are very hippy...selling lots of cool things, which sparked our first purchases! We bought a stunning photo album in sari and a similar wall hanging - both of which are on their way home by sea (mum freeman, should be with you in 2.5 months! there is also a postcard for grandma in there, i hope she is ok, send her my love). Also we both bought some thai trousers which are very comfortable and very Hippy!!! We found that it was a much more relaxed atmosphere at Udaipur and we didnt get much hasstle at all from
Laundry Service!!
Women wash themselves and their clothes in the very unclean lake! the locals. Its famous for the James Bond movie - octopussy! which was filmed there and was playing in all the restaurants.
After this we got a sleeper bus to Mumbai (Bombay), well what can we say......except ride from HELL!!!!!!!! it took 17 hours, during which time we were encaged in an area at the roof of the bus, around 5 ft long 4 ft wide and 3 ft high - the roads here are terrible, so it was like being on the fair ground ride 'shaker' the WHOLE 17 hours!!!! it was literally lifting us off the floor! Funny at first.......... not so funny after 10 mins!!! being at the back and facing the wrong way didnt help with the travel sickness either!
We arrived in Mumbai and booked into a hotel which was the worse so far and the most expensive, we spent the day and evening looking around and came to the conclusion that is was not as chaotic as we thought it would be, and reminded us of the nicer parts of london...but with sea! We went to a cinema and watched a Bollywood film, which was in indian but we completely understood... very funny seeing
Two of many beggers! At least they put some effort in!
We only had 1 ruppee, they wanted more... but hey beggers cant be choosers! all the crazy dancing and singing!! No kissing in films aloud! After one night we moved on from Mumbai and took the train to Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
What a journey that was!!!!! 45 hours by train (3 days and 2 nights) The actual ride was fine compared to the bus but this time we had alot of roaches to contend with (Ami not happy, as couldnt sleep) Ruth on full time squash patrol!! They were absolutely everywhere and came alive at night! Ami was even lucky enough to get one in the only meal we ate on the train!!!
We arrived at Kanniyukumari which is a holiday resort for indians and is where the three seas meet (Indian ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal). Its pretty down by the sea, and has great sunsets/sunrises but we are moving on today after only one day as its way too much like Gt Yarmouth with sun (Regent Road eat your heart out).
Our plans now are to travel up the west coast towards Goa, having lots of stops on the way (Goa being our final destination) We have heard some great things about the coast and are looking forward to
Typical train carriage
Meet our new friends... some chill time by the beaches. Each train/bus journey we have will only be short so we are glad we have got the massive ones done and we can relax and take in the atmosphere.
Thanks to everyone who has left messages, its great to hear from you all, love to everyone back home xxxxxxxxx
