30.04.2017 Lachung, Yumthang & Zero Point Lachung and Yumthang are the two most picturesque places in the whole of Sikkim with stunning views of mountains. Lachung means the 'Small Pass' .Lachung is a small mountain village at an altitude of 8,610 ft and located about 118 kms from Gangtok. Many waterfalls coming down the rock faces, lush forested landscapes and scenic views all around. Yumthang valley is about 25kms from Lachung located at an altitude of 11,800 ft and takes about 1.5 hours of drive. The name Yumthang Valley means 'Valley of Flowers'. But it is 'Valley of Rhododendrons'. Because here rhododendron flowers are spread for miles and in many different colors like purple, blue, red, pink etc. The rhododendrons bloom between March to May. <br style="color:𛈇

We have to pay Rs 2500/- per vehicle to go ahead to zero point. Scene of valley is superb. We come across many waterfalls. The road is not good. There was landslide and road has been destroyed. Big small stones are spread on the road. The work is going on. We were surprised by the skill of Golu who was driving on such a bad road. Zero Point is last outpost. No motorable road is ahead. It is calm and quiet. Just enjoy the beauty with mountains and ice. There is China border. But our army goes upto last point by helicopter. We ate chana/popcorn and started return journey. Took halt at valley for photos.Came to hotel and had lunch.
We started for Gangtok within half an hour after lunch. We wanted to visit MG Road bazar which we had missed. But alas! It started raining olays. Big drops. We were again held up as convoy was going to Lachung. It was unending. It was learned that since the road to Nathula was closed, every one was going to Lachung for holidays. The road was bad. Golu was not allowing us to sit in the seat giving continuous bumps. At last we came to our hotel in Gangtok. Tomorrow we were leaving for Mumbai
