Feb 22nd commemorates Thinking Day in the world of Scouting and Guiding. Cal and I had our investiture!!!!! FINALLY!!! Even though Mum took me to my first Scout Jamboree in Canada before I was one and I swapped badges with my Grandpa at another one in Victoria, we finally 'officially' became part of the Scout Movement! I am in Cubs and Cal is in Joeys.
We have badges on our uniform now and had a little ceremony in the garden with Mum and Dad and a couple of our friends. We made a little Promise and Prayer. Scouts are into fun, freedom, friendship, excitement and challenges. And traveling to big Jamborees for camping. adventures and to swap badges! I'm working on my Bronze Boomerang badge which has lots of parts. I've done the knots, first aid and some codes and signals.
This is what Cal said when Mum asked him some questions before our investiture: What does a Promise mean? "It means that I'm not lying, I really mean it and the other person trusts you. Pinky promise means that you're really not trying to trick someone." What does it mean when you promise to do your best? "I'll
be really helpful." How do you show that you love your God? "God is everything so that means that we're also God. Love is God and it means that God is also inside us. So you look after your friends and the nature and it means you are loving God." What do you do to be helpful to your family, to your teachers and to your friends? "If they ask me to do something I should do it, like hang the laundry, or...... bringing the bins upstairs, I say yes, sure! I share with my friends. On my exam days I listen to my teachers and do my work."
We got two scalves at the investiture. One is maroon colour for Queensland because when we live at home that's our State. The blue one is for when we do Lones activities. Lones means when you don't have an active group of Scouts near you but you do your learning with a leader using email, phone or the post. The challenges are the same though. Our leader's name is Killara. It means 'always there' in Aboriginal language. Killara is Australian but she lives overseas like us. She is living in
America. Cal wants to go to Legoland so maybe we'll visit her there!
Here are is what Killara told me about what the world emblem badge that we got for our investiture means. It's the round purple one:
In heraldry, white (or silver) represents purity, and royal purple denotes Leadership and service.
- The Arrowhead was chosen by Baden Powell our founder of Scouting, and taken from the Northpoint used on maps. Baden's wife, Lady Olave (founder of Guiding), later said "It shows the true way to go".
- The two five pointed stars stand for Truth and Knowledge. The ten points represent the 10 points of the Scout Law.
- The three points of the fleur de Les stand for 1) Service to Others 2) Duty to God 3) The Scout Law.
- The ring around the base of the three points stands for the bond of brotherhood of Scouting.
- The Encircling rope symbolises the unity and botherhood in the World Scout movement.
- The reef knot, which one cannot undo no matter how hard one pulls at it, is symbolic of the strength of World Scouting's unity and brotherhood.
I'm going to look up Cubberies
and find out when they are on. I'm going to meet my Grandpa at some more Jamborees soon.
English class with Yashodaji from Canada is always fun. Well, it's fun for us and sometimes hard work for Yashodaji!
Here is something I wrote about how pirates roamed the seas from some things I learned while reading Explorers and Travelers: 'There are some famous pirates. One of them was called Blackbeard. He tied matches in his hair and he mainly fought with a gun. Girl pirates are very rare but some girl pirates became famous. Pirates love silver and gold. Some pirates would spend 40 000 pieces of silver in just one night. That is about US $45 000 in today's money! Did you hear about the Jadan pirates? Shiv aaahhhrr Prem, Shankaaaarrrr Puri and Avataaaarrrr Puri!'
Avatarpuri is in the Hostel now. We see him sometimes but he does more activities there now like morning PT and homework.
Yesterday we went to a fair in a city called Sojat with my bro's teacher. Mum lost her phone but a nice man found it and gave it back. We went on some scary rides. Dad said the
safety factor was zero! The ferris wheel was going SOOOOO fast and there were no doors on the carriages! We went on the big rocking ship and there was not much railing on the side! It was going really fast and really high! I liked the jumping slide and got really sweaty running up it so many times. We had proper Indian dinner at our friend's house and delicious icecream at the fair.
