Pondicherry

After breakfast we departed for our trip to Pondicherry which lies 160 km south of Chennai and has an imminent French influence. The old town with the seashore boulevard has some of the old Colonial buildings which house the French institutions, private homes and businesses. We went for a walk on the promenade in front of the sea where we saw several landmarks including the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jeanne d'Arc and Dupleix, the elegant War Memorial which was interesting.

We also saw churches, museums temple, ashram and we had a delicious ice- cream and coconut water near the beach. The Point Calimere wildlife sanctuary and the mangrove forests of Pichavaram are also nearby but we did not have time to visit there and we headed to Mahabalipuram.
