'Why did you let him go?' being acted out here!! Tonight I fly out of Delhi and onto Thailand, ready to start the next chapter of my adventure. My main aim for today is to hide from the immense heat outside, as well as the Kashmiri sellers, beggars and everyone else on the crazy street that is Main Bazaar, Paharganj, New Delhi!! My taxi to the airport is booked for 9.30pm with my flight at 1.05am, and after a late one watching the Champions League last night, I plan on going and having a snooze this afternoon, but first, a catch up :o)
April 23rd 2008 - Two Weddings & The Navy Well, I am dedicating this blog entry to my Uncle Steve and Berni, who last Wednesday, tied the knot! By all accounts you got the beautiful day you fully deserved, and I wish you a wonderful and healthy future together, and am SO glad the sun was shining!! For those of you who know my Uncle Steve, The Telegraph and Argus have a story and even a video on their website, so follow this link and take a look; http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/videonews/index.var.27464.0.0.php I was very excited to see that even Mum gets a couple of quotes, surely that makes me

Mr. Children Walking Tall, you are truly magnificent Rob. famous??!
As much as I wished I could have been back over in Skipton with the family to share the celebrations (and promply fly back again on Thursday obviously!) I was definately kept busy over here too. I mean, its not everyday that 52 of Her Majesty's Royal Navy descend on The Mango House. Lets just say it was far from a normal day at Children Walking Tall for either the children all the volunteers!!
It is school holidays over here right now, so as well as our 52 visitors, we had all the kids in all day, and mayhem pretty much reigned, it was great!! We started off with science class, which is one of Jenny's, another volunteers genius inclusions to our 'Summer Camp' programme. We basically made film cases explode using 'fizzing tablets' and water. So simple, but so much fun! Then after a crazy singing and dancing session and juice and biscuits, it was outside to mix with the sailors, who were busy builiding us a tree house, a football pitch and working on the porch roof ready for monsoon.
As well as playing cricket, swings and tree climbing, the sailors had also brought
a load of their food that needed eating from the ship (HMS Illustrious) so the lucky children got a feast of real Mars and Snickers bars, crisps INCLUDING SALT AND VINEGAR!! Thankfully little Anand let me have one of his crisps and Mubu gave me a bite of her snickers, heaven! And also, Cornish pasties, cheese and pickle and ham sandwiches, ribena and probably far more besides. At this point I must mention, that for one day only, the contents of a cornish pasty definately dont come form a cow (is it lamb anyway?) and ham is NOT from pigs, but who cares, they loved it! For once Didi's amazing chicken curry really didn't go too well........!!
It wasnt all fun, games and food though, they also brought with them a dentist and dental nurse, who turned the office into a proper little dental surgery, bringing their own dentist chair and all the kit, as well as some medics. So a lot of the children had their teeth checked, and I even managed to sit through Sachine having two extractions without being sick, although it was a traumatic experience for me, not for him mind, he was hardcore n
Getting ready for monsoon
Repairing the veranda roof before the rain comes never even flinched! All the cuts and ailments were looked at, and a nurse did some general health checks too. Also they brought stacks and stacks of recyclables with them, to help with our attempts to keep two of our older girls in school, by providing them with the plastics/metal/cardboard they would otherwise have to rag pick themseleves to make money for the family, so this is a massive help. And a ton of new toys too!! So, we were really lucky to have them visit.
I had to leave at 2.30, as I had bizarrly baring in mind the wedding back home, a wedding reception of my own to attend. But in the afternoon they had a party, and when the kids had gone home there were beers drunk and dancing done n it sounds like it was a really great evening to follow a fab day. And the best news for future volunteers, it could become a regular thing yay!!
Oh, and at somepoint, around the 20th May I think, there will be a series starting on channel five which is following the sailors, and the granada film crew were also there for the day, so
Our Didi
Although her chicken curry didn't go down too well for once, after the kids had gorged on crisps, choccie, pasties and sandwiches the sailors brought with them! keep your eye out in the tele pages and you'll be able to see for yourselves what a great day we had!!
So, after leaving the charity, I headed back to Baga to get ready to go to Anthony and Cath's Wedding party. It took a lot of effort to try to keep cool and wear my black dress, but I just about managed it! And, lets be honest, everyone else was roasting too!
I arrived at about 7pm, to find Anthony pacing because Cath was running late!! Managed to get positioned under a fan so stayed relatively cool all evening, apart from on toilet visits, as it was like a complete oven in there!! Had a really nice night with plenty of Kingfisher and lovely grub, and was so nice to see them finally wed!! Left just in time to get back to my local, Liquid, to watch United and Barca in their first leg semi final match. They were damn lucky to come away witha nil nil, but what a beauty Scholesy scored on Tues to put us into the final :o)
