We arrived back in India on a hot and humid Sunday morning and took a taxi to the Napier House Hotel, which is in Fort Cochin. It did not quite live up to its website photos - someone must be a wizz with Photoshop- but after a rather uncomfortable night, we were upgraded to a superior room, complete with its own private terrace.

We've done plenty of browsing in antique shops and have visited the synagogue and the church where Vasco Da Gama was first buried. (Before his body was transported back to Lisbon)

The town has not changed much since I first visited in 2001. Progress is obviously slower in the South. There is plenty of room for sensitive restoration of mouldering colonial style mansions, though!

I'm off to Ooty tomorrow!

Thought of you Rob, while enjoying a mango lassi in this roof top cafe. A huge Maersk cargo ship sailed past behind the trees!

These are the famous Chinese Fishing Nets, minus the sunset and amids the debris of water hyacinth and general rubbish...
