After our last entry we headed straight out for a much talked about party in Palolem... Chloe really wanted to dance and we both fancied a late night so headed off "on the road to Agonda" to find out if this party actually existed! And it did - we heard music and to top it off it was trance music, there was fancy lights and decorations and a little fire in the corner... we bought drinks, we started to dance and then.... everything went dead - silence, darkness, nothing! Apparently the police had turned up and shut down the party - even after 100,000 ruppee pay off to let them put the party on! So we have officially give up on party searching... well until thailand anyway! 😊)
So after Chloe left we stayed in Palolem three more nights - had dinner with a cow and well... just ate lots and got slightly sunburnt! We left on Wednesday ... and I am ashamed to say we got in a taxi from there to Gokarn - we both didn't much fancy public transport (as cheap as it is) - a two and a half hour taxi journey cost about 17 quid!
We stayed in a bug infested Gokarna International hotel for one night - saw the sights of Gokarn town, had our cheapest meal yet (90 ruppees for both of us - thats about 1 pound), followed a small religious procession back to the hotel (we have no idea what they were doing but it looked cute) - then Pilch got cornered in a lift by hundreds of Indian school children who were staying in the hotel! We asked a rickshaw driver if there were bars on either of the other beaches - he nodded (as he would) and took us ten minutes drive to a dark hill top and pointed to a path - we looked at each other and decided to go back until the next day .. just as well we did coz when we went back to that path in the day time we saw it would have ended in injury for both of us esp as we had no torch!
So we headed to Om Beach next morning and spent three nights in a bamboo hut - lots of holes for bugs to get in which was only worrying up until the first night
when we saw rats the size of dogs running around! Om Beach is beautiful - called this due to its shape (3) ... we basically lazed around this beach and walked over to nearby Kootlee Beach (where we saw a mini tornado) and got a boat to Paradise beach - all in all very relaxing! Pilch made friends with a young jewellery seller who wanted to exchange a necklace for his mp3 player ... we thought it was time to move on when he promised it to him the next day!!
So we took a night bus to Hampi last night - we waited an hour for it to turn up, then were told our tickets weren't confirmed and so instead of beds we had a seat each... before the bus started we said never again would we get a night bus... then when it took the first corner at what felt like 90mph and thought the whole bus was gonna tip over - we promised ourselves again not to get another night bus... then wheel under us made a horrid banging sound every time we went over a bump... and there are a LOT of bumps... Basically we
had a pretty horrible ten hours on a bus with not the slightest possibility of sleep esp when the person in the bunk above started throwing up out of the window!!
It did improve slightly as the sun came up but Hospet (our last stop before Hampi) was not the best morning wake up with rickshaw men and beggars at the door of the coach before you even stand up out of your seat. When we pulled into Hampi it was ten times worse with men surrounding the bus - hands in the windows, standing at the door - no one even wanted to get off the bus!! It is horrible to see as you know they are desperate for you to use their rickshaw or sleep at their guesthouse but it is very difficult to remember this with no sleep and a numb bum!!
Hampi however is lovely - we did find a decent little room and have spent the day recovering surrounded by the rocks! We are going out tomorow exploring the temples with our rickshaw man Rammi.
Plan is to leave on thursday to Kerala - been told about a flight from here so
we think we may splash out...
hope everyone is good back in the UK... Take Care... FULL POWER!! xx
