Does anyone have any grit?
Our trek took us to where we were meant to catch a bus to Leh, and were once again met by Shafi. Unfortunately due to the weather and the poor condition of the road it wasn't ready for bus travel, but Shafi, being a very well connected man, managed to get us into a jeep to Kargil - the halfway point. Once squished into the front of the jeep for the 8 hour journey Gill tried to find a position where she wasn't sitting on the gear stick - but no luck. When we arrived in Kargil we had the option of staying overnight or continuing on to Leh. We decided to continue - bad decision.

The second leg of the journey was driven by Tibetan students in convoy with another jeep. After numerous driver changes, tea stops, pee stops and races, we arrived battered and bruised (with suspected coccyx fractures) in Leh. It was 5-30 am, we were tired, sore and had missed some of the best Himalayan scenery to date. One saving grace was that the students who drove took us straight to a good guest house and woke the owner for us allowing us to get some
