Hello Friends,
This is my first blog ever, where I would like to share some of my experiences regarding my recent visit to Shimla (State capital of Himachal Pradesh in India). So, please accept my apologies if you think that I am wrong somewhere.
Shimla which was also known as The Summer Capital of India during british era, no doubt is a beautiful hill station and one can relax there and chill out at various points. The weather there is cool and pleasant during the month of May-June, the time during which northern plain regions like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh have the extreme summers, sometimes temperature reaching beyond 45 degrees celsius. But, in Shimla the temperature hardly goes beyond 25 degrees celsius during day time. Cool breeze will rejuvenate your mind and soul giving you an awesome feeling. Apart from its pleasant weather Shimla is also a perfect destination for those who don't want to miss the city life. You may also say that it is the hill station which is more modern as compared to other hill stations and today it has almost all those things which you get in major/metro cities, be it branded showrooms
(both apparels and gadgets), parlour and saloons, bakeries, branded eating outlets. Although, I am a kind of person who loves to be in a place which is peaceful and away from the city crowd and vehicle's noise, but still for me it was a good experience, as I was in mountains. So, other things become secondary.
Shimla is a bit crowded place as compared to other hill stations. Maybe, it was a weekend so I felt the crowd more as most of the people living in Delhi / Chandigarh, after having a busy schedule in their offices with lots of work pressure from Monday to Friday, rush towards Shimla for their weekends with their friends and family to relax. So, most of the hotels are fully packed during weekends. It is always recommendable to book your accommodation in advance if you are visiting in peak summers specially during weekends. Me and my colleague visited few hotels to find a room and it was a bit tough to go through as you have to walk up and down and half of your body energy is wasted in it. Also, you may not get public transport for every place, so have

A road below the Ridge to walk only, up and down. I would suggest you to hire a taxi to ensure smooth travel within the city or nearby places. But, for hiring local taxis also you need to be very smart as there are people who will try to fool you but you will have to bargain with them.
There are many eating outlets in Shimla, some of them are expensive and some are reasonable also. Indian Coffee House in Mall Road Shimla is a very descent place to have your meals at a reasonable price. Other eating joints are also there like Sher-e-punjab, wake and bake restaurant, Dominos, Sagar Ratna etc. But generally whenever I travel to hills I never go to these kinds of restaurants as I feel that one should always go for local dishes which are famous in that region and are traditional. You may have pizzas, burgers, rolls etc everywhere but not the local authentic food. My colleague was very fond of trying the new modern food and as I was travelling for the first time with him so this time I also decided to give it a try and enjoyed it too but didn't got an opportunity to

The giant statue of lord hanuman at jakhu temple taste the local cuisines. So, I will better try it for next time.
For sightseeing, you may visit the Christ church which is in The Ridge, The library, Jakhu Temple (Temple dedicated to lord hanuman) is the highest point of Shimla (this is the place which I liked the most in whole Shimla). Then you may visit Summer Hill, Indian Institute of Advance Study which is very beautifully maintained. There are some nearby spots also like Kufri, Chhail, Narkanda etc.
At last, would like to introduce to the incredible asset of Shimla - The Toy Train (runs between Shimla and Kalka). Though I don't like travelling by train but this was a good experience for me. This is a narrow gauge train which runs with an average speed of 25 km per hour, passing through beautiful mountain terrain, tunnels and bridges. For me, starting 2 hours were with full of enjoyment and fun but after that I was just wondering when will I reach Kalka as I had to get a bus for Delhi. But, it was in my case only. Other people enjoyed it a lot and I am sure you will also enjoy this ride.
