On Friday I turned 23, and what a fab day I had!! Thanks to everyone back home who sent cards/messages by the way.
I woke up early, around 7, and the day didn’t get off to the best ever start when I heard a strange noise, looked out of my window and saw it was raining, nooooooooooo!! I couldn’t believe it, this was the last thing I expected to happen being in Goa. Thankfully it had stopped after about fifteen minutes, and soon the sun was blazing, boy is it hot here right now!!
Met up with Mum and Dad, and had breakfast on the beach, at Big Banana. Sam’s, my old favourite shack had been taken down police since I was last here in December, so have had to do quite a bit of shack roaming. Pleased to say that today it has reappeared again, and this time apparently with the proper license, which is fab news. Not fully operational at the moment, but can’t wait til it is!! So, had a very tasty ham, cheese and mushroom omelette and orange juice, then a chill on the beach for a couple of hours.
Next stop was Infantaria,
the yummy cake shop and restaurant, to pick up my birthday cake and have a bit of lunch, before getting Vinod to drop all three of us, plus the cake at work.
Had a fabulous afternoon with my beautiful children. Once lunchtime was out of the way, had a few badminton games in the garden, but was soon melting. Had a visitor come in to do some music and dancing with the kids. Had them all sat in a circle singing and clapping along to a ‘mum-umma-ayla’ random song. They loved it, and it reminded me of our school trip to France in year 7, when they got us to do something similar. At least I think that’s where it was when we did it anyway, getting old now, hard to remember! As well as singing, the kids did some dancing and music playing, and had tons of fun.
I couldn’t believe my luck when it turned out that the people who were doing the music thing had alos brought another friend, and she put on a clown magic show in the garden, what more could you ask for on your birthday??! The clown was really cool, and
all the kids (apart from two who were petrified!) loved it. Kiran (my little man) also missed it, as by this point he’d zonked out fast asleep, and I was getting a bit worried he was going to miss birthday cake. Then I remembered how much he loves his food and realised I had no reason to worry!
Back inside we all went and I was serenaded with Happy Birthday, and then the cake was cut and handed out, as well as a balloon fight and basic chaos reigning in what is usually peaceful milk and fruit time! After teeth brushing and ‘shutti and stars’ Kiran gave me a beautiful card all the little ones had made in the morning, one for the scrap book, Gran! By now it was time for the kids to go home.
Before all of us went out for birthday tea at Satya Heera, our fav restaurant in Mapusa, the town where the charity is, we had a group of children come in from the slum so we could give them each new clothes. It was made extra nice because a lot of the kids that came were ones that had been coming
to the house when I was last here, so it was great to catch up with them and see them looking well. They all got a bit of birthday cake too, before Ali took them home.
Dinner at Satya Heera was lovely, and after stuffing our faces we headed back into Calangute where the serious birthday partying was to begin. After a couple in Shooters, things quickly got messy with a few in Ash’s bar before hitting Cocktails and Dreams and having evil cocktails forced on me by Anto and Richard!! Ahhh, the hardships of being the birthday girl! After some boogying in Mambo and then 'pool playing' in Kamaki, not convinced I was hitting many balls mind, it was home as the sun was rising.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who shared my wonderful day with me. Really LOVED it!
And, yes, the monster hangover on Saturday was well worth it!!
