Nathan Road
This is the area were staying...tsim sha tsui. Does anybody know where we can get a massage? Hong Kong
When we arrived in Hong Kong the first thing we decided to do was find somewhere to stay. We both agreed the peninsula was out of our budget and instead headed over to good old Nathan Road, as we call it now to find somewhere. This is probably the most hectic road in Kowloon. Full of con artists trying to sell us tailor made suits, watches and massages.
I'd heard a little about Chungking Mansions before we left so we said why not. I recommend reading up on this place...I cant believe we've survived four nights already! ha.
Amidst, the con artists we were greeted by Tom who insisted his guesthouse is the best in the building. There must be over 100 guesthouses in there. The first few floors are full of market type shops selling all types of junk! It's a really interesting place though. The buildings like a labrinth housing people from all parts of the world.
Anyways, we arrived at the 16th floor. Tom's guesthouse. We were actually shocked that the place looked reasonably clean. Looks like the back of a kebab shop in Newcastle, big white tiles with dim flourescent lights over them. Our
Toms guest hoose
The entrance to Tom's guesthouse room's pretty small, just a couple single beds and a shower/toilet. Just pleased to see it's clean. I scowered the bed for bugs! ha. I think our showers got to be the most impressive thing in our room besides the view. We have to actually stand over the toilet and lean over to wash ourselves! The water just sprays all over the toilet. Good way to save space we thought. our room costs 6 quid a night each.
Dave's takin over the typing now...I'm too slow and its costing us a fortune.
aalreet. Our first traditional meal was at the dumpling house on hong kong island. we had noodles in hot and sour soup with pork dumplings. i was a little bit precarious about the dish at first, especially when mike stole my pork pieces but it didnt turn out to be too bad. see the pic. mmm. next photo is the long escalator. what a godsend this is. saved my knees alot of pain up them steep hills. goes on for ages. mike even stopped off for a subway off it. the next photo is a cracker if i say so myself. i took it on my
Our room
This is our comfy bed sit. its not much, but its home own with no help and you can hardly tell. check out the background. we ate our bubba gump shrimp looking at that view. we ate like kings for the same price of two nights accomodation. next one is off the city from the peak but at nightime. we also went to the horse racing at happy valley 'restaurant' as the chinese taxi driver called. i always thought it was race course but nevermind. he was pretty bad at english. i didnt even come close to winning but mike got lucky in the 6th. he must have marked down the wrong horse. anyway, he won HK$112 and bought us a memory card for our brand spanking new PSP for those long trips. 😊 next pic is of a chinese temple where people pray, fortune tell n stuff. we had more pics to put on but like i say, if we spent all our money on internet access, we could never afforded our new playstation. tomorrow were going to nanning (or nick nack as mike calls it) in china for a couple days. will update in vietnam. i expect
take it easy
