These types of unusual building designs are not unusual anywhere
The morning began with a rush to catch the Star ferry over to Hong Kong Island so we could meet the 10.15am connection hop off bus to Stanley. We missed it by 2 minutes so we took another ride of yesterdays hop on hop off bus around Hong Kong Island on the Victoria harbour side; this takes an hour before it linked back with the next Stanley bus. That worked fine and we were off to Stanley on the other side of Hong Kong Island. The best part of the trip was driving past The Hong Kong Jockey Club at Happy Valley, the racecourse. Its spectacular and is set at the edge of the very high rise suburbs before the road goes through the mountains. It’s a green oasis in an otherwise mass of concrete and bitumen. The whole of the infield is taken up with other sporting fields for all sports and some of those were being used as we drove by. The grandstands on one side only are massive maybe 10 storeys high. We were told that t.he HK Jockey Club is HKs biggest taxpayer. Stanley is a pretty seaside town with shops along the curved waterfront. The beach

area isn’t large but the harbour is pretty. It has a small but wide and covered pier and is easily accessible. The market is just past the local pubs and food shops and is vast and cosy as it is covered in. The market isn’t as rushed as Temple Street market in Hong Kong but has everything the latter has. We picked up some more things and an unusual one. The drive back was good as we passed a spectacular golf course and a secluded and protected beach at Repulse Bay.
