Hong Kong - the New York City of Asia! Energy buzz, stimulation plus, stores galore of every designer name you can think of, tall buildings, people everywhere (7 million people live here!) …and winding mountain roads and beautiful green spaces.
We had two full fun fabulous days in Hong Kong and we walked until we dropped! Our hotel was in Kwun Tong in Kowloon, a bit of a distance but it is easy to travel by public transit in Hong Kong and we quickly learned how to get to Victoria Harbour. From there we walked and boated and looked up and looked down - the Avenue of the Stars, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Western Market, the Ginseng and Bird’s Nest Street, the Herbal Medicine Street, the Dried Seafood Street, Hollywood Road/Antiques Street, SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong - both great areas for restaurants and bars and busy night life, the Peak Tram up Victoria Mountain and seeing the lights of the city from The Peak Tower Sky Terrace, taking the double decker bus through the winding mountain roads and trees and green to Stanley and visiting the excellent Maritime Museum. Oh and we took the most amazing
escalator ride up and up from one street to another in SoHo. The world’s longest (800 m.) covered outdoor escalator. It is brilliant!
The final event was the Victoria Harbour Cruise at night and watching the amazing Symphony of Lights, the world’s largest permanent sound and light show (say Guinness World Records).
2 days was not long enough here. There is so much to see and experience! We shall return!
On September 19th we celebrated Al’s birthday by flying most of the day!
Took the very efficient airport express train (it is amazingly fast!) to Hong Kong Airport and first flew to Singapore and then on to Manila.
We are now in the Philippines for a month until October 19th and plan to enjoy exploring many islands! More stories to come!
Hugs to you!
😊 Love Al and Robin
