We've read in a number of blogs that the people in XXX town in XXX country are the friendliest or most welcoming. Well it's official, for us at least, that the most accommodating, attentive and welcoming person we've met is a British ex-pat in HK. Take a bow Sarah Jane. Thank you!

Ok, we were friends already and she'd invited us months before and we were one of a few who'd made it to HK from London but what a welcome.

We were given more than a bed to sleep in, but a whole apartment for 10 days, shown around, introduced to friends and wined and dined. Not only the pair of us, but Dean my brother, who'd come to see us for a week, got the full treatment too.

In terms of getting to know HK we got the tripleX-pat version. Nights out in Wan Chai and Lan Qwai Fong, gambling and go-karting in Macau, champagne brunches at the HK football club, an evening at the races, a junk boat trip to outlying island beaches, followed by more nights out in Lan Qwai Fong. All with the luxury of an apartment in the mid-levels to recover in (and we did need to recover).

Dean, le frère de Jason, est venu nous rejoindre et on a eu le privilège d’expérimenter ensemble la vie occidentale à Hong Kong sous diverses formes: sorties de folie dans le quartier de Lan Qwai Fong*, journée en junk Boat (pour résumer le concept : 11h00-18h00, un tour en bateau de Hong Kong Island vers quelque plage, une horde de fêtards à bord, un buffet délicieux et des boissons à volonté), go-karting et casinos à Macao, brunch au Champagne au Hong Kong Football Club, soirée Karaoke (on se souviendra en particulier de Solid as a Rock (Jason vs Sarah), It’s Tricky (Jason vs Darren) et Atomic, brillament interprétée par le duo Mark/Sarah... Quant à moi, je ne connais que des chansons de Claude François ou de Sheila, donc j’me suis bien tenue ce soir-là...

*Des groupes de touristes chinois en voyage organisé y viennent même pour observer la jeunesse en délir.

Hi, spent a whole day in Hong Kong on the way to Australia with my boyfriend Matt on June 16th... just realised we could have almost bumped into each other ;) Unfortunately I'm back in rainy London and Plesman House longing for my next holiday! Happy continued travels, Charlotte
