Travel blog covershot anyone? Welcome to Jungle part deux,
Let me catch you up. My parents came to China. Together we were the modern Indian Jones searching for lost treasure. As previously mentioned Mom and Dad discovered many long held Chinese secrets of the North. Ancient mysteries now having been solved in Being and Xian we headed south.
The cities we left in our wake were Guilin, Guangzhou, Zhongshan, and Hong Kong. Saddly we had to say goodbye to the safety of our Chinese guides. After Guilin we were in uncharted territory. Places that exist on no western map, like Guangzhou, a small exotic village of 13 million. The fate of our journey was left in my hands. Surely my parents must have had their doubts.
The most terrifying aspect of this meant I was responsible for the provisions. They would eat only what I provided. There is a running joke in China about what people in Guangdong eat. They eat anything that flies in the sky except an airplane and anything with four legs except a table. Some people may have felt we were entering a culinary heart of darkness. However my ever intrepid parents proved they were willing to try
hat
I love that hat it all.
In my islolated outpost of Zhongshan, 2 million people, my parents met my girlfriend. I think that both my parents and Carmen were a little frightened but everything turned out roses. We went out for a traditional guangdong breakfast, "morning tea". During Morning tea we sip tea and eat many plates of different Hors d'Ĺ“uvre style Guangdong food (dimsum). I love it because you get to try a little of everything. The course du jour was chicken feet, served boiled and cold, just how we love em. My parents may have thought it was a joke untill they saw Carmen litterally devoure a foot whole and go back for more while they watched wide eyed. People in Guandong LOVE chicken feet, I have eaten hundreds of chicken feet during my tenure. There isn't much to a chicken foot, mostly tendons and skin, the process of eating it is what is fun. Well my parents ate it, and thats when I stared wide eyed. Nothing like the sight of 3 chicken toes hanging out of your mothers mouth while meeting your girlfriend for the first time. I won't forget that anytime soon.
Truthfully the end of the
hong kong skyline
I love this city, Im glad my parents got to see it trip went so fast. We were constantly on the move, one night in this hotel, one night in the next. They got to see some of my version of China and that is what I enjoyed the most.
Dad marveled at 75 cent copies of Windows 7. Mom Marveled that I thought it was expensive. I turned down two copies of windows seven because they wanted a dollar fifty. I don't know if I can afford America anymore. My lunch costs $1 tops. My parents never had to adjust to squat toliets. I still don't want to. My parents finally adjusted for the jet lag the day before they left. I finally adjusted to speaking native english they day before they left. My english sucks. I went back to school and realized I was speaking a million miles per hour. Not to worry I quickly readjusted and speak great Chinese English again. My parents and I in many way went on two different trips, but both equally enjoyable.
Mom and Dad, thanks again so much, it was blast. Next time I'll move to Europe okay? ;-)
Anyway this is meant to be a photo drop. So enjoy
