the hutong are tiny alleys where people traditionally live. crazy broken-down houses and shops and crew just living and breathing and doin their thing

the site of the imfamous protests and massacre...... awe-inspiring to have actually been there, although it's hard to imagine the things that have happened now. see if you can spot any security/army/police personnel!

i was pretty puffed at this point, but we were nowhere near done! note the lack of jacket despite frosty temperatures.

we were most of the way up when we reached this beautiful pool, near heavenly lake. gorgeous.

we reached the top of our particular mountain, and what a view!

since i'd climbed the mountain, of course i had to be cheesy and play guitar on top of it! i was strumming a really out of tune chord at the time.

did i say one stupid one? i meant many..... this was taken at people's park in urumqi. kt made me climb ontop of the zebra. our hairdos match!

the urumqi night markets were a little more confronting than the beijing ones! we just had to take a photo of this one (despite being charged two yuan for it!)

the old guys in the people's park loved our rendition of avril lavigne's "girlfriend". here, kt's trying to master the zhapou, with a little help from one of our new friends.

we drove past these kids riding their bikes through the desert in turpan. kinda like home, but not.
