Tiger Leaping Gorge
The bull just lying in the middle of the road at the start. Kathy and Mikk. " A beautful flower does not bloom forever" - Naxi proverb
So we (me Kathy and Mikk) got up at 6:30am to catch the bus from the new town at 7:20am for Tiger LEaping Gorge. We locked our bags at the youth hostel ( including some of my valuables which probably might not have been the smartest idea but it seemed like it at the time). We got a taxi for 6RMB and arrived at the bus station at 7:10am. Quickly brought a wholesome breakfast of bread and ice cream for breakfast and two bottles of water and headed for the bus. Fell asleep on the bus (while I was asleep Mikk had a fan club on the bus that said he looked like Tom Cruise). We finally got to the start of the gorge and with some directions we started our hike. This lady tried following us with her horse (mule) but we said boo-yow ( I cant spell but it means no in chinese) many times until she got the hint. The total length of the gorge is 23km ( i think) and runs along the Yangstze river. The water drop between the upper and lower reaches of
Tiger Leaping Gorge
A lady chilling out on the gorge. Enjoying the spectacular scenery. the gorge is as large as 200m. As we walked we could see snow capped peaks (which were over 3000m above the river surface). We met some english girls who traveled Australia for 6 months in a comby van. Wicked.
Breath taking. The trek is by no means easy. Alot of the times I was just breathing heavily and could not talk especially going around 28 bends. It was truely spectacular and I don't think the photos (which I will post eventually) can do it justice. At the tip of the 28 bends this guy said we could look off the ledge but we would have to pay to take photos. I said ill have a look but i didn't take any photos because i already had some nice photos of the gorge. I said the gorge was beautiful ( hen how kun). He pointed at me and said hen how kun and started laughing. We continued our trek till we reached the tea horse guest house. We had lunch there and chilled for a bit and got a bit too much food. We said good bye to the english girls at the tea horse guest house. Then we
continued to the halfway guest house (im guessing about 17km into the trek). Halfway house was awesome. The gueshouse is definately worth the 20RMB (for a dorm). THe view is crazy good. It overlooks the mountain and even from the toilet you have a scenic view - so we got photos in the toilets. We had some delicious pancakes with apple and honey for dinner and sweet apple pie. There was this really cute kitten too that reminded me of Mishka but this one was more whiney. Then me and Mikk had a beer in a hammock type chair under the stars (which you could see quite well here) and went to bed around 11:30pm.
