Our trip to Oz!
The famous Bruce Highway! One of the best parts of living as an expat is the chances to travel to places that if back home (England) we would not be able to do. One of my dream places to visit is Australia! It has always been on my wish list but I never thought we would ever get there! But we decided at the last minute to go away for Christmas and looked at many places but after lots of searching we chose to spend Christmas in Australia! We planned on doing a road trip that ended us at Heron Island....far more cheaper than flying from place to place! We started off from Sidney and we (my wonderful husband!) drove 10 hours to our first hotel. That was a very long day as we had a 12 hour flight, off the plane and into the car!! The kids were fantastic and made the first car journey very well!!! The roads were great to drive on, long straight roads with spaced out traffic....we only got stuck in 2 traffic jams the whole time, and it was a massive drive, about the same distance as Kent in England up to Scotland and back 5 times!!!! We have

I had been on the look out for wild kangaroo's for 4 days then spotted these! Andy stopped super fast for me!!!! to say, we loved the Bruce Highway even though it seemed to go on forever, a tick off my husbands list!!! We had 2 more days driving long hours but it was all worth it when we reached Heron Island!!!
So now Heron was out of the way, we took a slow drive back to Sidney! We spent 4 days at a lovely hotel....Novotel Twin Waters Resort, Sunshine Coast. We spent Christmas here. We were a short walk to the beach (which seemed to go on for miles!) and we had wild kangaroos wondering around during the day and evening. On Christmas day we had a bit of a lazy day....once we opened Santa's presents we spent the rest of the day swimming and Matthew took daddy out on a sailing boat. Our Christmas dinner was yummmmy......we found a great Fish and Chips shop that was just a 5 minute drive away from our hotel! As we have been living in China for the past 3 years we have not had a good old English Fish and Chips and boy was it good! Best Christmas dinner for many years!!!! We sat outside in a park by the sea, in
our shorts and t.shirts eating our tasty dinner.....just watching the world go by.
Boxing day was a great day to tick off a few things on my wish list! We took the boys to the Steve Irwin Australia Zoo. It was such a lovely zoo and we were there when it opened and was one of the last to leave at closing. We have always wanted to see kangaroos and our wish came true! We got up so close to these amazing creatures, stroking and hand feeding them. A memory that will last a life time! Then next on my list....koalas! We got the chance to stroke a young koala, made my day, my week, my year!!!! We watched the great croc show....my boys were very impressed!! They got so excited when the zoo keeper was feeding the croc and he reached up to take the meat from the zoo keeper!! They also liked looking around at the other crocs and snakes. I preferred the African area myself!!! It was so nice to see all the hard work that Steve and his family have put into this place. Very moving. Totally amazing day out and would so recommend this

Love this picture! place if you go Travelling in this area!
Next up we travelled a few hours to a small place named Taree. We stayed here just for 2 nights. It was a nice little town. We were lucky to find a small cinema and was there at the right time to watch the new Star Wars movie!! We spent the evening playing at the park by the river, a really peaceful place. We had one more night in a small hotel before exploring Sidney on our last day. We only had a few hours to spend here so we headed straight to Mrs Macquarie's Chair as we had read this is the best place to get a great view of the city. Boy WHAT A VIEW!!!!!!! We walked through the very pretty Botanic gardens and along the path by the harbour. The views were amazing! It was a very hot sweaty day on New Years Eve but the walk to the Mrs Macquarie's Chair was worth it! After seeing photos of this amazing city it was very surreal standing there....we could see the Sidney Opera House and the Sidney Bridge and so many boats, including the Maritime ships (which I

Twin waters hotel! think my sons were more excited about!!) After soaking in the amazing views we just had enough time to head to Bondi beach!!! Who would have thought we would be sitting here on New Years Eve afternoon!!!! Such a famous beach and we could see why! We spent a couple of hours here, we found a great kids park right in front of the beach so the boys could run around and play while my husband and I watched the world go by (again!!) More amazing views, so many in one day.
Australia is an amazing country even though we only got to really see a small part as this place is Massive!!!! England seems so tiny now after visiting here!! The people were friendly, great roads, great food, amazing sunsets and wildlife and fabulous weather, amazing blue skies and fantastic supermarkets!!!! (remember, I have been living in China for 3 years with not so great supermarkets!!!!) We got the chance to experience so many wonderful things and took many memories home with us. You never know, one day we maybe back!!!! Never say never.
