Finally after another delayed flight with China Eastern Airlines, we left Delhi for Beijing via Shanghai at 4:30 am. In Delhi we were told our luggage would go straight through to Beijing, and we were assigned our seats. Arriving in Shanghai we were told we had to retrieve our luggage and go through another luggage drop-off. After much confusion and running around by China Eastern staff we were informed that the plane was full and we could not fly out until a later flight. We had booked this flight eight months ago, so we were not impressed at being told the flight was full when we already had assigned seats. We then spent the next five hours in China Eastern's sad first class lounge. Finally, after a two and a half hour flight we arrived in Beijing. We caught a few different Metro lines and eventually arrived at our hotel exhausted at 11 pm. We had awakened early Sunday morning at 6 am and it was now 11 pm on Monday night. So far, we are not big fans of China Eastern Airlines. Their planes are modern and clean but their staff on the ground seem very inefficient and incompetent.
