"Why are you all dressed in green?", asked a curious Chinese student. "Is it Arbor Day?"

A good guess-after all, trees are green. But no, it's St. Patrick's Day. How do you explain what St. Patrick's Day is to someone who doesn't understand? Well, this is the conversation I had several times throughout the day:

"It's an Irish holiday."
"So you're from Ireland?"
"No, we celebrate it in America."
"Oh. So what is the purpose of this holiday?"
"To get drunk."
"Oh. This is a holiday?"

Yeah, the various groups of green got more stares than usual as they made their way to O'Malleys pub in downtown Shanghai. O'Malleys is a great pub, very spacious. They had a great Irish band from 5-8, but I missed it. It was a fun night, being surrounded by fellow foreigners dressed in green.

I leave for my week-long trip tomorrow, so keep and eye out for big updates next weekend!
